LPN failure - No phone signal on device

What I thought was a software issue turns out to be hardware. Apparently the LPN on my PPC 6700 no longer recieves or sends a signal. After a hard reboot, Windows wouldn't load at all, and suddenly this morning it did. I have restored all of my data to the device via ActiveSync, but the actual phone component remains dysfunctional.

Alltel and the insurer are essentially saying "too bad," and I will have to pay up the $95 deductible to get a replacement phone.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue and gotten recompense from US Starcom? My device is about 20 months old. I know warranties are only for one year, but having your phone stop functioning as a phone at all after less than two years does not sound reasonable to me. If this is a common problem, I am wondering if there is some pending action against the manufacturer.

I have transferred service to an old phone and will carry it and my PPC until I decide whether to re-up with Alltel in three months. We were considering switching anyway, so it doesn't seem prudent to come up with $100 for a phone I won't be able to use with an alternative provider, anyway.

I had the same issue sort of.....The 6700 told me there was no radio attached to the device. I ended up flashing the phone again after a hard reboot with the latest firmware from US Starcom. That resolved my issue. That was over 4 months ago.

I have downloaded the AKU2.X Fix Application from UTStar.com, which is supposed to be for Alltel devices. Unfortunately, the execution fails with a "wrong country code" ID.

The ReadMe file says:
"Q14: I get “error 120: Country id error”, what should I do?

A: It may due to you get the wrong image. Please check your device’s device name and language type and download RUU package from the vender web site again and reset your device and then run RUU again."

Unfortunately, Alltel no longer has any Downloads for PPC6700s, even though there are months left on my contract for this phone. How ridiculous is that?

Does anyone know where there might be an archived download somewhere?

Another phone call to Alltel tech support, and I am instructed to type ##778 and hit send, then "view," and up comes a whole laundry list of failed applications.

If I select "Edit" instead of "view," I get a request for an "unlock" code. Anyone know what this might be?

I am hoping SOMEONE has found a solution to this issue without trashing the phone.

Ive got a friends phone right now that he jacked all up some how. The LEDs dont work, the keyboard doesnt work and the phone portion of the phone doesnt work. If I go to the wireless manager there si no phone option there at all. If I press and hold the IE button and go to that screen I see the phone but will will not turn on. When I reboot the phone it says there is no radio. I cant hard reset because the keyboard doesnt work. I cant upgrade and reflash the radio (v1.43) because the phone doesnt even see the hardware. I tried to reflash with my person ROM that I like to use (which was also already on this phone) and got a country error code of 120 also. Although I downloaded the ROM from UTs site I havent tried it yet because I made a clone image of my phone on the SD card with an autorun.exe and tried to install that and it also didnt work. So after all of that I did try the ROM from UT (for VZW) and also got an error 120 "Country code" so I am convinced it is a hardware issue.

What a PITA!

Update: I gave up and paid my $100 insurance co-pay and have a brand new 6800. I think it was worth the investment. I am not sure I will stay with Alltel, though.
