I hate this phone with a passion. It has been nothing but endless problems for me. Now that that's out of the way, my space bar is basically dead. The on screen space bar works fine but the physical space bar on the phone rarely works. I have soft restarted more times than I can count and hard restarted and it still does not work. It will work in very, very small spurts. I've noticed that sometimes, when I turn the power off and on in the middle of a text, it will work again until I type. Other than that, it has just stopped working. The LCD lights don't light up when I push it when a space doesn't appear, either. Any ideas?
I've done both. The problem was occuring before I upgraded the ROM and when I did (thus hard-reseting and flashing the ROM), the keyboard still had it's issues, although it's very inconsistent about when it does and doesn't work.
If it is a true hardware issue (as in that particular button being dead and non-functional) then a reset or flashing of the ROM will not resolve it. It is hardware based and not software controlled. The only thing you can do is
A) work around it and use the LCD spacebar or substitute using a hypen or underscore
B) replace the keypad itself. You can buy just the pad on ebay or maybe get another broken phone off ebay and go from there. There is one located here at a very good price.
C) Do you have insurance and if so then have it replaced.
I don't have insurance, but there's a one year warranty on the phone. This will be the fourth phone that I have had replaced... I guess I'll be taking a trip to the Verizon store after class tomorrow.
