battery charges alone, but ppc won't connect

Great site, I have been reading for a while, but need help, so I finally decided to post. I'll try to help out where I can, I'm not a 'noob', but not terribly skilled either. I've tried to do all the searching I can, and can't find an answer to my question. Sorry if it's already out there.

Anyway, here's my issue. When I take the battery out of the phone, and charge it by itself it charges fine. When I put the battery in the phone, it will not charge and the phone will not connect to my pc. No signs of any type of connection - no orange light, AS doesn't start, no signs of life on file explorer. Nothing. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the hardware of the connection. I have used several different cables that work with other devices and used to work with the phone. The last thing I did before this problem happened was try to charge the phone through the aux outlet on a bus - did that outlet have too much voltage and fry something on the phone? I would think it would have just damaged the battery? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the mini-USB connector located on the phone seem loose?

Can you hold it up under a light and inspect whether the pins are not bent or busted?

I agree, it sounds like a bad Mini-USB port or its solder joints are broken on the board ( AKA loose). If you really think about it, its what it had to be. You know your battery is good because it will charge when not being in the phone. You say yourself that it wil not charge in the phone nor connect via AS. So this leads to everyones conclusion that you have a bad/broken mini-USB port on your phone.

Now comes that part of do you have insurance on the device? Where did you get it from and how long ago? Do you want to take it apart and try to replace the port itself (if you are mechanically inclined to take things apart and solder) or do you want to simply replace it through the means of insurance (if applicable/available) or by another unit?

Good luck either way and what ever choice you make

Thanks for the reply - everything seems fine. Is there some type of a fuse that can go? I've soft reset, and hard reset just to see if that may make a difference, it didn't. I'm wondering if the mini-usb connector needs to be replaced...I don't think I can do that.

No insurance - I got it off ebay, it worked fine for about a year, but ever since that bus charger, it won't connect. Your ideas are what I was afraid of. Just thought I'd ask to see if there was something I was missing.
