Help! Phone Frozen On Verizon Boot Screen

Hey All,

All was fine yesterday as I texted someone. I then flipped the phone closed and instead of the screen reverting positions it froze. I attempted a soft reset and now it just hangs on the boot screen.

Here's what it reads:

H/W=2
M=12
U=4
P SNAZ-40306
R 1.10.00
D 2.07.20 WWE

I've never had to hard reset the phone and I'd like to try all other options first. Heck, I'm not even sure how to hard reset the phone.

I've searched the forums but there are so many threads with individual search words I can't seem to get any useful information to this particular issue.

Any help is greatly, greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

I know everyone is busy but I've done multiple searches and haven't come up with anything.

Any help is appreciated.

when you press the reset button again, does it just go back and freeze at the bootup screen again? Do you have a card in the phone? If so, take it out and then try to reboot with the stylus again and see what you get.

Sorry, but I think a hard reset is probably step 1 since you are stuck on the boot screen and have no other way of accessing the phone. Hard reset is done by: while holding down both soft keys (the ones with the dashes on them), push in the reset button with the stylus. Then open the keyboard and enter 'y' and 'space' as directed. If it works, then you are good to go. If not then I'd say chances are you've got a hardware failure deep in the phone - i.e. time for a 6800. Good luck. tmb

Thanks for the help.

Yep, when I press the reset button it just goes back to the boot screen and hangs there.

I've tried it with my memory card out and it still does the same thing. Nasty!!!

Well then TMB is right, all you have left is to hard reset and if that doesnt work then maybe you can get to BL mode and try to reflash. If not, then as he said, time to look for a replacement

I was able to get to the hard reset prompt, but elected "N" in hopes of salvaging the data first. At least it isn't a hardware thing, presumably.

I never backed up my phone, but I have synced it with my computer on many occasions. Is there a chance that it automatically saved my contacts, links and other WM5 bits of data? I don't mind reinstalling the software and whatnot, but I'd really really hate losing all my contact info.

*crosses fingers*

Well do you have all your contacts in Outlook? Do you have AS set to also sync the PPC favorites? Thats really the most part of what is sync and saved on the PC. Any MS Word, Excel, ringtones, txt msg, ECT are not synced with AS but rather would need 3rd party software to do that.

Hey guys, just wondered what the outcome of your phone was. My phone also locks on the Verizon boot screen. I fear that mine may be a total loss though. My toggle stick broke about 2 months ago making screen navigation difficult and the qwerty board all but totally inoperable. The stick would get stuck in the "on" or depressed mode and not allow me to input any data. I would have to shake the phone around, trying to get the stick in the neutral position. Then, about 2 days ago, it just totally froze on the boot screen. No matter if I take the card/battery out. So, just wondered if you had any luck with your phone recovery.
