My Sprint PPC 6700 is slowly but surely dying:(

No bueno! Heres the problem. Fresh off the charger in the morning it works fine ... for a while. Then after a few hours, I'll go to make a call, try and turn it on ... nothing! I try holding down the power button for 10+ seconds .... still nothing. The only way to get it going again is to do a soft reset. Even then I still get problems every once in a while. Sometimes I'll do a soft reset and it works fine (until it shuts off again!) and other times it'll freeze on the white sprint screen or the windows mobile logo screen and other times it'll go completely haywire and give me a crazy rainbow screen. I tried doing a hard reset and the problem persists. Its seems to work better after a fresh charge, could it be my battery is going out? I don't want to buy a new battery if its just gonna keep doing this to me. When I actually can turn it on everything works fine. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanx a million in advance!!!

If you have insurance (TEP), use it. If not, pony up the $8 or so for a new battery and flash your phone to AKU 3.5 (which I still contend is the most stable).

Also don't install any apps once you've flashed the ROM. See how the phone behaves and then slowly add in the apps one at a time to see if they are the cause of your issues.

My phone is doing the same. It is not a battery issue. I guess I am going to do the SA thing.

Well, tried flashing to AKU 3.5. Still happens.
Didn't install any extra programs. Still happens.
Bought a new UTStarcom battery. Happens less frequently, but still happens.

I guess its not a battery issue but its got to be some sort of power issue. Something is preventing it from turning on when battery power isn't optimal. It NEVER turns off on the charger.

And I know I'm missing calls and texts when I don't know it secretly turned off on me in my pocket. I have to check my voicemail after each soft reset cuz it doesn't notify me of missed calls or voicemail when its off. The thing is though, the green led still flashes! The screen just won't turn on.

I guess this phone is about 3 years old now but I'd hate to spend the $$$ for a Mogul or a tilt when this one works fine other than this problem. Any ideas .... anyone?!?

SP

Ps Whats the "SA thing" lkillen?

I apologize. SA is a developers term for Software Assurance. What I meant to say was Total Ansurance. If you have insurance, you may option for a phone replacement and roll the dice that you might get a 6800. Post here have shown that some are getting 6800 while other are getting refurb'd 6700. You could call Lock line in advance and ask what type of phone they will send you. Stress that you want to stay with 6700 so it will fit your accessories so they don't think you are just looking for a free upgrade. They will do almost anything to avoid replacing a phone. When they tell you they only have 6800's, say "Oh well, if I have too".

Let us know how it works out.

Lockline replaces lost phones too, right? My 6700 has been acting up for a while (doing way too many things for me to get into the details) and I have held off on calling lockline. But if I do call lockline and get a replacement, I'd kind of like to keep it as a standalone PDA. So if I "lose" it rather than tell them it's been dropped about 100 times and doesn't work right anymore, will they replace it?
And yes, the standalone PDA function still sucks, but it can still access my WiFi network and run a slingplayer while I'm on my treadmill.
