XV6700 Allignment Issue! Please help!

Ok I just got this thing off of eBay and of course I loved it, but the alignment was off. So then I tried align screen and all it would do is loop!

So I took to searching the net and noticed most forum posts said reset would work. What they failed to say is that if it doesnt fix it that youll be stuck at the alignment screen for good!

So what is wrong? Why is it doing this? Is it software or hardware? Most importantly... How do I fix it? Is there a way I can bypass (welcome.not)?

Also, the only time my computer even responds to the phone at all is when I do a hard or soft reset, and all that does is show a pop up baloon saying the device has malfunctined and Windows doesnt know what the device is! Is it because I havent gotten past initial configuration? Or is this thing a really expensive brick?

it could be because there is a hardware issue involved. Also, some ppl say they get small amounts of dirt under the screen and to clean it out the use a business card to 'dig' under the screen.

Def clean. I does seem like there were dead spot (when it was working).
But now there are no dead spots...?

Im thinking digitizer? I have quite a bit of experience soldering, but how hard would it be to replace?

And is this the reason my computer wont recongnize anything is there?

I havent had to replace any but there are several tutorials around here on how to take apart. If I am not mistaken there are 2 or 3 different types of screens so before you order, make sure you take yours apart so you can see which one you need.

I do not think this would have anything to do with your PC not seeing the PPC. But for that I would need to know what OS and software firewalls you have as well as what version of ActiveSync you are using.

OOPS I have a decent machine running XP Pro and Active Sync 4.5. No firewalls...

Could you point me in the right direction for the tutorials?

There are several here in the board, just to go the search option and you use the keyword "Disassemble" in the 6700 forums. One in particular is here

Something to check would be for a hair or other object embedded between the screen and the case. Running a piece of paper under the screen might clear up some crud and allow the screen to work right.

Just a thought.

More than a hard reset... sounds like the phone needs to be reprogrammed and a ROM installed.
Check this out.

That site is far less informative than what info we have gather and shared here on the board. If you want hacks and edits the look here or here.

This is a hardware issue and not software based. Nice try though.

Hi, I've run into this before as well. Always on WM5 and not an issue since upgrading to WM6.

I have had 5 or 6 of 15 phones come up with this problem at one time or another. It may be hardware, it may be software, I'm not experienced enough to say, but when it happened to me I just kept on running through the steps.

As insidious as it may seem at the time, eventually you will get to the end of it (at least I did) and the screen alignment was fixed.

Thats how we handled it.

I have also taken apart my phone, the tutorials were immensely helpful. Putting it back together though left me with a phone that was not quite the same as before I took it apart. May I suggest you exhaust all software options before popping the hood?
