Still happy with my xv6600, but planning on a 6800 after 2.5yrs (jan 2005). I am using it with BT DUN right now on vacation to post with my Macbook. My first one lasted about a year, then they replaced it with a camera version when my battery latch failed, causing hard resets.
I occasionally watch cable tv with my Slingbox tuner version hooked up at home. I get up to 400kbps d/l speed, 98kbps upload, with evdo. I have the unlimited pda dataplan, and tried to voluntarily upgrade to the $59 broadband access. They said it can't be done, but noted my account that I did try to pay extra for tethering...

I'm still with the 6600 from Sprint. Though they never lived up to the rumor of providing EVDO changes (%$&^*!), I'm not switching to another converged unit until HTC (and ONLY HTC) makes a screen that is the same size or larger. I've had my 6600 for over 2 years now (replaced it 3 times - 2 of which were my fault, through stupidity). I've hardly ever had to reset it. I probably have around $1,000 worth of additional accessories tied up in it as well. Every time Palm comes out with their Treo, whether they were P or W based, I contemplated the idea of switching.....ONLY TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE there truly is NO better converged system out there at the moment. IF HTC markets themselves in the states I'll start to pay their newer phone more attention. But NOT if their future screens are smaller than what I have now.
Cheers!
Hi all,
My wife & I still use our xv6600--recently, I went on a buying kick on Ebay and bought about 6 different pdaphones/smartphones to test against my 6600:
Audiovox 5600
I-Mate JAQ
Sidekick 2
Moto Q
Samsung i600 (PocketPC)
Samsung i500 (Palm)
Of all these, only the Motorola Moto Q came close to the performance and quality of my 6600, and the Moto Q screen is very small compared to the 6600's.
why mess with a good thing?? Keep your 6600 (or better yet, put it up for sale on Ebay and I'll buy it as a backup!)
I've "only" gone through 2 6600s so far (got my first w/cam before they were on the street, so it's been a couple of years), but I might have to go to #3. Right now, when I close the slide fully, the screen gets all funky. In other words, I have to slide the keyboard out to use the screen, which is annoying. I'm going to open it up later, to see if there's anything "obvious" that I can fix, but I'm not too hopeful. The little torx bit has sure come in handy, as was mentioned previously - the screws love to just loosen and pop themselves out. I mis-diagnosed my last problem as a battery issue, but it turns out the battery just wasn't sitting properly because of the screws popping out. As for anything else useful, I've got a bunch of "me toos"...until something with the same size screen comes out, I've got no reason to "upgrade".
For a while I was thinking about the iPhone...it just looks so damn cool. Maybe the HTC Touch will come out in a CDMA version??
I still have a 6600, i just a Like-new one off ebay and I was wondering what the newest Rom is, it came with 2.007.00 WWE. Seems like with the last one i had the newest i could get was 2.007.00 WWE, but I'm not sure.
I still have my original 6600, with Verizon. To be fair, I got my directly from UTStarcomm, as I had called to complain about the false advertising on the box of the Audiovox Thera (it didn't work with SDIO cards like they said it did on the box) and they sent me a 6600 as a replacement.
In any event, I agree with some of the other posts here: the new devices might be more powerful, but I just can't afford to lose the screen real estate. I have to admit that WM6 is tempting though... hopefully something with the same form factor and WM6 will arrive soon.
In any event, I'll keep plodding along with the 6600.. it does what I need it to do.

I just received a replacement from the insurance company...I think this will be my last one.....i love thisbig screenand theplacement of the keyboard....those llandscape keyboards don't allow one hand typing. but i see the new software is passing us by....there is some great functionality we're leaving on the table .
I think, whenthis one dies, I'm going to have to move on. it's been a great 2.5 years with this ssucker...I think I know just about allthere is to know about optimizing it for me....I can get everuthing upand running in about 20 minutes....
if you think about it, 3 years is a long time for technology. it's really a testimate to how grewat this thing is
if only we could get wm5 working on it...i might never switch. alas, the ship is prettry much sunk.
I'm in the same boat with most everyone else. I like the big screen on this thing. But the fact that we can't do alot of things because of the old (2003se) software is burning at me. But to be honest, I don't care for what verizon has coming in the future. I have about a year left on my contract before I can jump ship for something better. Hopefully my 6600 will last that long. I find myself soft resetting more and more. And one of my batteries has just about had it, with the other not to far behind. I don't really want to buy new ones.
I switched to a Q (MOL3 latest update) 2 months ago while waiting for a replacement 6600. The new 6600 came in a week later, but I am still using the Q. I feel like a traitor, having gotten my 6600 Jan 2005.
I might just sell the unused 6600 now...

PS: The only reason staying with Q is the "non-volatile" memory so my data is safer in ROM, the scroll wheel, and better balance for one handed texting. The 6600 is still a great phone. I will likely keep it as my backup, and sell my two Kyocera 7135 instead...

Just order my 3rd 2400mAh battery from Lion. Come to think about it, I am on my 3rd XV6600, but that is another story. The 2400mAh last for about 12mo. which is about normal. Let's see if Verizon comes out with the XV6800 in Oct. My 6600 is doing well, but a new device would be nice too.

Hi all,
Yep, I switched from my xv6600 to the MotoQ about a month ago--sure I miss the screen size and the calendar viewing--what did I get in return? A much light, pocketable phone with unlimited data, texting, and 500 mins/month for $30 a month under Sprint's SERO plan. Verizon just doesn't have anything close to that. So, for me, it was the provider and not the phone itself--I loved the xv6600, and plan on keeping it as long as it continues to work, just not as my main cellphone.
cheers all--
