I figured out the answer while reading forum posts about people having trouble with car cigarette lighter adapters and the 6700. If the 6700 refused to charge from a device that has a mini-USB plug and you would think should charge it, then turn off the 6700, plug in the charger, and wait a few seconds. Eventually the 6700 led shows that it is charging, and then you can turn it on and it will continue to charge. This technique works for me and the Socket will charge it as long as the 6700 is off when I plug in the cable and I wait 10 seconds.
