Must Read Threads for Newbies!!!!! (and anyone else who wants to be in the know!)

I get a lot of the same questions from new PPC-660X/XV6600 users. Most of them can be answered by pointing them to a few of the best threads to get anyone started in the world of PPC-660X/XV6600 ownership.

I also know it is hard for Newbies to search because sometimes they simply don't even know what to search for yet. ( see below for directions on how to do a search ) So here are some of the best threads I think every Newbie should read so they can get a good understanding of the PPC-660X/XV6600 and help them realize how powerful of a tool they really have in their hands:

Ultimate Toys For the PPC-660X/XV6600:
Want to know what accessories you can buy and where?

Never get lost again. Great thread if you are interested in using GPS navigation with your PPC-660X/XV6600

Cool things that the PPC-6600 / PPC-6601 / XV6600 does that most may overlook
Find out how other people are using their phone in ways that you may not have thought of or share your great ideas with us:

Registry Edits Hints and Finds:
Only after you feel comfortable with WM2003 and a little adventerous ( Please take to heart the warning in the first post ) :
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=40171

There are some other great thread suggestions posted below, so make sure you take a browse through this whole thread.

If you find a thread that you think would a great resource for a Newbie then post it below and I will update this first post.

I hope this thread comes to help and welcome all new comers and makes their transition to WM2003 and the PPC-660X/XV6600 as easy as possible.

HOW TO DO A SEARCH
Before you post a question it is not only polite to everyone who visits the board, but also extremely useful to you to do a search first. This should become just habit before posting a new thread asking a question or sharing what you believe is late breaking news. So to help you out, here is a step by step on how to do a search on this forum:

1) Look in the top left corner of the screen, just under the PDAphoneHome.com Logo, you will see the word SEARCH. Click on it. It will take you here: http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/search.php?s=

2) On the Search page are a couple basic sections to fill out:
  • Search By Keyword
In this section, type in the Keyword you are looking for, i.e. if you were trying to find out about wireless keyboards then you might type in Keyboard. If you get too many results then try to narrow your search, like Bluetooth Keyboard. If you did not get any results then try to make your keywords a more general.
  • Search By User Name
If you know the name of the user how posted what you are looking for, then enter it here.....otherwise just leave it blank.
  • Search Forum...
This has a drop down list of all the forums that are on this sight. It would be best to choose the "--PPC-6601 / PPC-6600 / XV6600" forum from the list.

There is also an option to list as threads or as posts. I personally prefer to "Show results as threads" , unless I end up with a thread with hundreds of posts in it, then it might help to go back and select "Show results as posts ".
  • Search For Posts From...
If you know the approximate date the post you are looking for was posted, you can narrow down the search here, but generally most probably leave this blank the first run through a search.
  • Sort Results By...
Don't do anything in this section if you want the results to be listed with the latest post first, with is generally the best.

It would seem to me that a thread which included contributions from such stars as mwfielder and Ehud discussing OEM back up options, third-party back up software, and suggested back up procedures should be part of a must read list for newbies, no?

Also the XDA-Developers wiki on the Blue Angel, (The closest HTC GSM Phone to the 6600) has a bunch of good information.

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...=HTC_Blueangel

Most of our BT Patches and ROM cooking comes from those guys over at XDA Developers.

Just for Newbie info our phone is the HTC Harrier

I know this thread is in the i730 forum but I go off on a tirade on Syncing with both Verizon's Wireless Sync and Active Sync. Maybe I'll add my speech to the FAQ but for now I'll leave it here.

Yes.....but you need to update your PhotoContacts on your phone. There is a good thread with instructions and a link for to do this. Do a quick search for Photocontacts and it should come up.
