Summary of ROMs and patches

Request to moderator to Unstick the old patch thread and make this new one sticky. This will be less confusing for new users looking for updates if they have an old or new phone. Suggestions always welcome of what to put in this "Head post".

Summary of patches

Which patch:

It is unanimous that each HTC second generation phone will benefit from using the newest ROM images available. See notes on other patches beyong the new ROMs.

What patches and new ROMs do not fix:

It does not fix Voice Command over the headset.
It does not enable PDA Audio over the headset (e.g. no MP3).
It is not perfect.

How to check your Bluetooth stack version:

Go to Bluetooth Icon
Choose Bluetooth Settings
Choose About Tab
Choose Advanced... button

Rock Solid Install (for any patches beyond ROM updates):

Backup (to SDIO card or PC).
ActiveSync
Hard Reset
ActiveSync as Guest
Copy patch to PPC, On PC Copy to either:
My Computer: \Mobile Device\Storage Card
My Computer: \Mobile Device\Storage
Turn on Bluetooth (so it will be on when you are done)
On PPC Use File Explorer and Browse to where you put the patch
Now click on the Patch.
Soft Reset (if not done automatically).
Delete the patch from PPC if still there (it often is no longer usable).
Test your headset and Bluetooth devices.
Do real ActiveSync (delete existing partnership while disconnected).
Reinstall Apps.

Rambo Install (for any patches beyond ROM updates):

Backup (to SDIO card or PC), Rambo still does backups.
ActiveSync
Copy patch to PPC, On PC Copy to either:
My Computer: \Mobile Device\Storage Card
My Computer: \Mobile Device\Storage
Turn on Bluetooth (so it will be on when you are done)
Soft Reset
On PPC Use File Explorer and Browse to where you put the patch
Now click on the Patch.
Soft Reset (if not done automatically).
Delete the patch from PPC if still there (it often is no longer usable).
Test your headset and Bluetooth devices.

If Problems (with any patches beyond ROM updates):

Hard Reset
Restore Backup
Soft Reset
ActiveSync
Clean up

What if an Official RAM patch comes along:

It may not overwrite everything these patches did.
You may have to apply the Rock Solid Install method using the official patch.

Headsets:

See this Poll - http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/forum...s=&forumid=168

Risk of patches beyond ROM updates:

This is not without risk. However I never had a single hang, crash, reset, or hard reset in the dozens or so of experiments I did. Except for Bluetooth itself not working.

New ROMs:

This AudioVox site contains new ROM images for PPC-6601 and VX6600. They both include Bluetooth Stack 3500. Note that PPC-6600 was shipped with a new ROM.

Note: When upgrading the ROM and it gets stuck with a screen on the PPC saying something like Version 1.2 USB. Don't panic. Just restart the upgrade process on the PC.

http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/s...&beginIndex=21

This Club i-Mate site contains new ROM for the i-mate PDA2K

http://www.clubimate.com/index.asp?P...VICE_PDA2K_BT3

This Siemens site contains new ROM for the Cingular SX66

http://communications.siemens.com/cd...A76051,00.html

Patches:

This is a seperate OPTIONAL patch released directly from BroadComm to add support for Stereo bluetooth headsets and bluetooth keyboards. It can be installed on top of the ROM updates. But it should be installed last if you decide to use it. Rambo method can be used.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=2574 (PDA2K_BroadcomCorp_BTUpdate.cab)

This is Build 3900. Source is an XDA II update. Some folks with cars have stated it makes their car now work. However, for CDMA phones you will sometimes get the memory error when turning on BlueTooth while the CMDA radio is active. To remove it may require a hard reset. If you get the memory error, turnon flight mode and reboot and turn on bluetooth first. And leave bluetooth on.

Here is the old Patch thread prior to the ROM updates.

3500C Patch Link?

mswlogo,

I used the 3500C patch on the PPC6601, and it was good. But
with the Audiovox and Siemens updates I noticed in your new sticky no longer has the old 3500C patch. Do you still have a link to it on XDA developers? I could not find it there.

I want to try it first on my new SX66. I would like to avoid installing the full Siemens update because on my last SX66 BT performance went downhill after the update.

TonyH,

I put a link in the first post of this thread back to the old thread and restored the header (which had all the links) of that thread.

Staceman, not sure what you want. Post an example.

Everything is pretty close as far as versions go and most everything is BT3500.

does anyone know what the PPC6600 upgrade at the Audiovox web site does for the 6600. I know about the PPC 6601 ROM fix but I have not read anything about the 6600. I had the 6601 and changed to the 6600 and the phone has worked great out of the box. Is this an upgrade I should check into?

If things are working great, ultimately I'd say no. Leave the phone as is. It wouldn't hurt to upgrade sometime (next time you're planning on a hard reset, or want to reinstall anything anyway).

Lightbulb Audiovox update is for the radio

If you look at your device info under settings you should see a radio version of HA00_140. The update on the audiovox site updates this to HA01_140. I just got the 6600 as a replacement to my 6601. I wasnt going to do the upgrade, but last night my phone would not ring when I had incoming calls. The screen would not even show me an incoming call. I only knew I had missed calls when the phone beeped to alert me to a missed call. I checked all the settings and volume and everything was fine. I ended up having to do a hard reset. All in short, I think I'll try the upgrade. Afterall it updates the radio in the phone so it cant hurt.

My Arsenal:
PPC6600...'nuff said

Has anyone looked at the Broadcom website? Is broadcom working on any of the bluetooth issue as well? http://www.broadcom.com/products/Blu...ns/BCM1000-WCE

Apologies in advance if this is a newbie question. The first post mentions that the ROMS "[do] not enable PDA Audio over the headset (e.g. no MP3)."

I have a Sprint 6601 and I am using an Epox BT-HS02 with no significant problems regarding phone calls. Is there a way for me to listen to the music from windows media player in this or any other bluetooth headset?

If this is not possible, is it being worked on and where is the best place to keep an eye out for news of fixes?

Thanks in advance for any help.

NOt sure of the type of headset you have but there are "Handsfree" headsets and stereo headsets (sorry I forget the official name). The Hands free headsets that include a mic and are for phone use should work but currently do not. We don't know if it's being worked on. There are stereo listen only headsets that if you install the broadcomm patch (listed above) there are a few headsets that this works, some do not. HP makes one such headset.

I was able to get device audio over bluetooth using the patch described above. More information on what I did is here: http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...432#post313432

Follow the directions that came with it.

If you still get an error message, let us know what that is word for word. A screenshot would be useful too.

Are you trying to uply the update to a CAMERA phone?

The update is for the XV6600WOC. The camera version is already updated.
