thank you for that wonderful info, i guess it must not be real apparent or i wouldn't have asked. maybe you can explain the difference in upgrade and update if your not real busy
You know what, "buddy", I like to help as many people as I can. That's why I'm here 20+ hours a day.
However, the ROM flashing is more likely to cause problems than not. It can turn your phone into A BIG USELESS BRICK. [edited]
Fortunately for you, all your answers are out there, and by the time you find them and read them, you will be somewhat more educated and MAYBE safer. In other words, if you use "search" and bother to spend the time, you will be there and get to do all these upgrades/updates (and you'll know the difference).
Sure, I could explain it, and point you to the three procedures. I'm normally quick to do that... but in this case I am leery [edited] and I don't want to be on any end of a phone call or email.
tbare--search for a thread about WMP10 on the 6600 forum. All the new ROM info is there. But, as Ehud warned, do so at your own risk. Only a handful from this forum has done the upgrade, and I have seen a few issues, nothing major. Then again, nothing major seems to be improved, except WMP10. If mp3 ringtones are not a big deal to you, it may not be worth the risk. This is just MHO.
thank you mwfielder, thats all i asked. there are so many post here and alot of them have nothing to do with anything in the threads. and i do look at this forum almost every day for well over two years. imagine an upgrade in the WMP10 thread, just where everyone would look for improving there device. as you said, some of us may not be overly concerned with WMP.
thanks
So a few questions:
- I now see an icon on top center which has a small bold 'X' and 2 arrows, each pointing right (on top) & left (underneath right arrow). I searched & looked in various posts, but haven't found what it means. Help?
- I believe I can upgrade to the 3900B BT stack. Any comments? I'm going to post this, then search thru the BT posts looking for what it provides.
You can "switch" to the BT3900 stack, but don't do it unless you're having problems with the 3500 stack. Some things get better, and some get worse, so if it ain't broke... don't fix it.
The data icon. If it has an X, it's not on. (Not dormant, not active, NOT connected.)
If it has two arrows moving towards right and left it's trying to connect, but has not yet succeeded in connecting, logging in, getting an IP address.
If it has two solid arrows, then it is connected, although that won't show you if it's DORMANT or ACTIVE.
You can run fieldtrial.exe to see if the thingamagigie (slot? mode?) is 33 or 1. If it's 33 your data session is ACTIVE. 1 and it's dormant. 0 means something but you'll have to ask Dan -- I don't know
Originally posted by Ehud Perhaps you could elaborate as to what you mean. My bluetooth works just fine with my headse, activesync and DUNS. I also receive calls just fine...
I tried out my PPC6601 with a large number of headsets while I was at CES - it only worked well with a few. I would find it hard to believe that so many companies were were demoing headsets with a lot of snap crackle and pop and pairing issues. I find it more likely that the issue lies with this phone.
As far as receiving calls; at least once a week my phone doesn't ring and an hour later or so I'll get notice that I have missed a call or have a voice message. These occur without me leaving the location I'm in. There are no dead spots in any of these locations so it leads me to believe the issue is with the phone. If you do a search - you will find others experiencing the same issue.
Now I may have a dud phone - I'll be getting a replacement on Monday but since so many other people are having similar issues while some are not, I either have to think it was a either a batch of bad phones or an issue that can be resolved with a firmware update.
oh, God no! That's a well known issue with all the phones that have data service. It's scary none of you guys read those posts that discussed that. Do you have a browser that shows the "search" button? Look for "dormant".
Been away on a trip so am having to 'catch up' on recent posts. That said...
I recently updated to what's in my sig (E: Thanks for the info / posts / web site / DLs, etc) & been happy w/it. FWIW, the best part is I now have a complete document on what I have installed, in what order, configurations, registrations, etc, and I keep it up. Geez! This PDA is looking more & more like the written procedures I use to install W2k & other layered software (e.g., Oracle, web stuff, app svr stuff, etc).
But on to the topic at hand: Shortly after I hard-reset then installed, I noticed the same thing. Then I saw data link was up (in a 1xrtt area w/a data pkg). Turns out wireless active sync was running by default. So I had to config it to not run. It's still there (didn't uninstall as someone suggested).
I assume when E said to search (which I did ), he meant I'd get the info I was looking for. Turns out searching for 'dormant' yielded more than my specific issue (e.g., wireless sync triggering the data link going up). I also read about Sprint's 10-call tower stuff as well. While that was Sprint related, I could also see why VZW might have a similar problem as well, I guess.
Good info. Again, thanks all for the informative posts. Really is a help.
I have an xv6600woc which I use in an '05 BMW. The xv6600 tells me it's successfully paired. I can send and receive calls through the car sometimes. I cannot load the phone book into the car or dial from the phone / navigation unit in the car. There are a couple of other phones that do work so I have to believe that the xv6600 software needs to be developed further.
I have the latest Audiovox update and have tried the BT3900 patch.
Any ideas if Audiovox or anyone else is working on an upgrade which fixes the xv6600 interface to the car? When will it be available?

Ehud
Ehud - I'm guessing but not sure you are referring to my post about not reliably receiving calls. If you were referring to my post and that section of the post I appreciate the tip. I did a search and from the posts I read, my data service would have to be active for this issue to occur. The data connection is only active on my phone when I manually engage it - something I rarely do. I can count on my two hands the number of times I've actually browsed the web with my phone. I've recently began testing OMA but I used to only sync my phone through the cradle before that when I noticed the issue. At least I know about pressing the red button in the event that OMA is occurring however my phone does still ring when the data service is active.
Boe, some software you may have installed may activate a data connectionon its own. My RSS reader does and I believe a today weather plugin I used to have installed also initiated a data connection, however this only happens when the PDA is powered up......but because the idiotic way my phone spontaneously turns itself on every 10 minutes when I've got the bluetooth radio turned on, I miss alot of calls.
Unlike Ehud's example of bluetooth perfection, my phone does not play nice with my car: 2004 Acura TL. Out of 4 phones (2 previous SE phones and my wife's current V710), this is the only bluetooth phone that hasn't worked flawlessly with the car. I've tried the various patches with little success. 3900 works no better than the (I believe) 3100 my phone shipped with--actually works worse. I still am unable to initiate a phone call using my car's handsfree link, but I can receive/answer calls.....however after 2 minutes into a conversation the bluetooth connection is lost, every time without fail....at least my phone doesn't hang up on the caller when that happens.
For me, the bluetooth function of the phone is worthless when I need it most: with my car. Sure, I use my HP Bluetooth Stereo headphones--they work OK, and so does my Jabra BT-200 headset....but almost perfect ain't perfect. I like the phone, but I would never rely on it as a communication device that is critical to earning a living. It's a toy, nothing more.
Corn, thanks for your input. I had basically no extra software on my phone other than flash and adobe. The only thing that causing a connection was when I downloaded e-mail or browsed the web.
It is sad that this $500 business phone is considered a toy by anyone. Surely a patch could be created that would make it reliable for receiving calls?
