XV6600 How can I see more detailed signal strength?

-- In the Windows directory you will find a listing for 'fieldtrial.exe'

-- The only way to turn the phone on and off is by pressing the icon for the signal strength (the bars) and then selecting "Flight Mode".

-- 4) Keep minimal timeout.
-- 5) Watch out for data applications (e.g. IM, email) that pole frequently.

-- HTC (Manufacturer) says no plans.
-- For 3rd Party See http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=40158
-- Note as of Feb 27 2005 the 3rd Party Extended battery had issues (poor fit) for some users, which caused problems.

Where is best source of accessories?

-- Many venders are are not selling the correct accessories for this phone, a good source is your carrier.

How can I shut the Data Connection down?

-- See http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...threadid=38350
-- See http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=43246

---- i) You must have a registry editor like RESCO
---- ii) Search for flightmodeswitchbypnhendkey
---- iii) 1 means the end button puts you in flight mode. 0 means it shuts off the data connection. (credit to Ehud).

Which Bluetooth headsets work?

-- See first page of this thread http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=43821

Why is my screen keep turning on by itself?

-- Most agree the most common cause is Bluetooth being on (and likely a bug that will get fixed).
-- Next most common reason is an application waking up doing its thing.
-- Patches fix the Bluetooth issue.

Can USB Charge the phone?

-- Yes !!
-- In a pinch you can split your kit up and use the Cradle at work to Charge and Sync.
-- Then keep the A/C Adapter with Dongle at home. And use Bluetooth to Sync at Home. Or some other combo.
-- The power-plug is however used to charge a second battery in the cradle if you have one.
-- Be aware some USB ports are weak on current and you might overload it.

Which patch do I use?

-- See first page of this thread http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=43586

Why no WIFI on the CDMA models?

-- It is believed CDMA radio is larger and uses more power.
-- Wifi sucks battery down real fast too.
-- CDMA (EVDO) also can run at 500mb over cellular airwaves without the Wifi HotSpot charges.
-- So there is less need for WIFI in the CDMA phone.
-- Some believe it's to sell more Cellular based Data Minutes.

Why no Camera on some models?

-- It is believed that there is a class of business customers that prefer not have the camera based phone due to policies involved with their work.
-- Companies that involve Government, Military, Classified, Intellectual Property etc. ban cameras and therefore take their phone and PDA away.

How do I enable the Speaker Phone?

-- To enable or disable hold green Talk button for 5 seconds or so during the call.

Why is my phone slowing down and acting weird?

-- You may have excessive Duplicate Event Notifications built up
-- For a fix see http://scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html
-- For discussion see http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=40227

What are the special programming codes?

-- You Dial these codes in the phone application
-- See http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=37447

How can I dial phone numbers that prompt for more touch tones automatically from my Conact?

-- See http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...threadid=41291

It doesn't look like there are any plans for a VZN with camera.

Also, What are you talking about with the BT headsets when you say with w/o VZN patch? What is the VZN patch? Do I need to get it somewhere? What does it do?

It looks like no BT headset really works with these phones.

Just my thoughts from reading the FAQ. I could be way off, so please clarify for me.

Thanks.

I talk about the the "Verizon Patch" earlier in the FAQ.

"How do I apply the Verizon Bluetooth patch (hack) to the Sprint (or other earlier released phone) and what does it fix?"

The HBH-300 and 600 are the only headsets I see claims of working with no claims of problems.

One person said the patch fixed his headset issues but I don't think he mentioned which one he had.

I'm optimistic that the patch will help the headsets with mixed results.

For a headset to be claimed as working it should not get static or disconnect in the middle of call.

I am thinking about it... I'm concerned that you lump all of the XDA III products (including the GSM versions) into one FAQ when there are some differences to take into account.

"lumping" it all together and organizing it is one of major reasons I did it. A lot of new folks are confused. Like I want wifi, but they don't realize they have to drop evdo. Let's see how it goes. I think there is more in common than there is not.

Of course not... the h6315 uses GPRS, not 1xRTT!

I still don't understand the VZN patch. Is this already on the XV6600? Is it for Sprint phones only? Are these FAQs for Sprint PCS phones only?

It seems many of the issues addressed are geared to the Sprint line.

Bottom line. If I have the VZN phone, do I need to find the VZN Patch to install, or is it already on the phone?

Thank you.

If you have the Verizon phone you do not need the patch. The patch was derived from a Verizon phone and applied to any ealier CDMA released phone (namely the Sprint PPC-6601).

The FAQ does lean towards Sprint at the moment. Because the phone has been around longer and more quirks have been learned about it and discussed.

However, there is a newer patch that I just posted. That could apply to all current CDMA phones (including Verizon). But it is not tested much yet and we don't know if it is any improvement over what Verizion or Sprint phones patched with Verizon gives.

Also note, this is all unofficial hackery.

where is the newer patch mentioned above? What kind of patch is it? What does it do? Is it for BT only? BT headsets? Does it fix any other issues with the phones? Thank you.

How can I get the Verizon phone?

I am one of those people who are just about ready to switch to Sprint, but I have 5 lines and can't change them all at once. The one thing that would keep me with Verizon is being able to buy a decent Blue Tooth phone (that is DECENT, not the V710), now. But none of the stores have even heard of the XV6600. I can't find anything on the Verizon web site either.

GadgetLuvR,

I think the FAQ has some summary details. It's complicated and the jury is still out on many patches.

Depends on which phone you have.

The ZIP patch that copies XV6600 Bluettoth stack to PPC-6601 has had the most success.

The rest I'm not sure about yet.

You need to be pepared for hard resets (without complaints) if you want to experiment with patches.

No risk no reward though

It stands to reason that Verizon will call the "with camera version" the XV6600wc.
