Go to the media player. Tools. Buttons. Then i just changed the "action" button to "screen toggle". This will let you turn the screen on and off and the buttons are also locked. Hope this helps.
The media player "Screen Toggle" does not lock the buttons. It just turns the screen off.
To test, play a song, press up or down to change the volume. You will notice the volume change. The same goes for the other buttons. If you press a program button, the only way to turn the screen on is with the power button.

The Kyocera 7135 was great. The XV6600 was even better. So far the 8525 is pretty damn cool...
But I wish for the features of an 8525 with a 3.5" screen, that would be awesome.
The issue in not to just lock the buttons, but to lock the buttons and still have the device on. If you press the power button to lock the buttons, programs goes to sleep like Media Player (pauses) and therefore you can't put the device away in your pocket or in the included case because buttons are still active and easily get pressed.
i am triying to use my ppc-6600 as a webcam but i was unable to find anything here or google. is there anyone out there that can help me out?
you can even add this issue to the faq list because a lot of people dont know if this is possible or not. i know the treo 650 is possible with a 3rd party app. but i am unsure it can be done with ours. the treo 650 and ours is video capable so i am thinking is possible.
thanks
The cannonical way to automate retrieving your voicemail [at least on Verizon]
1. Set up a new contact. For example, to set up a new contact Vmail, go to Contacts, New, set the name to Vmail.
2. In the number field, enter the following:
cellnumberw#yourpassword#
So for example if your cell number is (212)555-2345 and your password is 7777 you would enter 2125552345w#7777#
3. To retrieve your voicemail call this contact. When you are prompted for your password hit the on-screen Talk button. (not the green button). This will activate dialing the digits after the "w".
Notes:
(1) In some areas it is not necessary to dial the # to enter the password if you are calling from your own numbers. However, in all areas using the # works.
(2) While not roaming you can use *86 instead of (areacode)your-number. However, in all areas using your number with area code works.
(3) Airtime minutes apply on Verizon whether you call your own number or *86. [Verified by Ehud May 5th 2005]
Can it please be added that versions of Wisbar Advanced 2 below 2.0.1.15 Beta are not friendly to our phones and can/will/may stop your phone from ringing at all.
Not to take away from Fred, but to add a similar request:
While we're at it, can we also add that versions of Microsoft Voice Command above 1.0 and below 2.0 are not friendy to our phones and can/will/may stop your phone from ringing, being abe to be answered, responding to touch, responding to commands, working, rebooting, having all the icons show up in the control panel, having the today items all show up, and having it stay operational.
for the .zip files and links to other programs...do we download them to our computer, then upload them to our ppc through the sync? for the field file...where does that go?
First download the file to the PC and unzip it. If you have a .cab file (it will look like a cabinet on the PC), copy it to the PPC via Active Sync (using the explore button on AS), and then click on it via the PPC. For ringtones, just copy them to the ppc as above. For .exe files, run them from the PC.

Ehud
hi there.
this works, but i just edited my voicemail number (*86 on verizon) and added the x#xxxx# to the end, this is even easier!
the pw doesnt come up when you dial vmail, which is nice for security i guess, and still works when you hit talk.
the pw does display after you end the call though.
Hello, I have read everywhere that on the XV6600 you can disable EVDO by pressing down on the talk button... I am not having success with this and have tried many times. Any thoughts?
Also, I was curious about the actual connection. With the USB / Bluetooth broadband dialup connection, are we connected using EVDO or a cellular call? Can we still use the phone while connected to a laptop or PC? Are there other alternatives to gain the broadband connection other than using dialup?
I have read many posts about ringers so I thought I would post this one online. It is the theme from napoleon dynamite when he is walking with his suit. Its already converted to .wma. Just place it in your windows/rings folder then mark it as a ringer with the stylus. Its a pretty decent volume too.
Oh yeah, I just downloaded Voice command and it rocks!

First, thanks for the Napoleon song...
Holding down the red end button disconnects the EVDO (or EN) data connection. You have to hold it down for at least 3 seconds.
As far as data connection, this phone cannot connect to data via phone minutes (this was the old Q2N at 14kbs). It will always connect via data minutes at either EVDO or EN speeds, depending on what is available in your area.
When the device is tethered to the PC (by cable or cradle) you can use the phone. When you do data on the tethered ppc, you are usually using the data connection from the PC and not using EVDO/EN. It depends on how you have active sync set up. Simple test---while tethered to the PC, open up PIE on the ppc. If it dials in, you are using EVDO/EN. If it merely connects, you are using the data from your PC. If you want to change this, open up Active Sync, click options, then the rules tab. Your options are at the bottom of the window.
