This is not the thread for this discussion. It's also been beaten to death. CDMA radio is larger and uses more power. Wifi sucks battery down real fast too. It also can run at 500mb over cellular airwaves without the stupid Wifi HotSpot charges. So there is less need.

USB / outlet charger addition

It may be worth mentioning in the FAQ, that the USB cradle will charge a pda on its own, without the need for the power charger.

(So if you only have one battery in the pda, you can charge it at work, and leave the power outlet-cable at home for at home-night charging).

The power-plug is however used to charge a second battery in the cradle if you have one.

This thread is intended to help build up a FAQ. Mainly for folks to contribute suggestions.

The Forum istelf is for the types of questions you asked on wifi and since the topic was off the charts it would not be unreasonable to ask again.

Actually now that I think of it, I'll add your question to the FAQ because it gets brought up often.

EDGE, UMTS, and PDA2K

According to http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1734778,00.asp you could include (under your "What speed should I expect?" section) --

Enhanced Data for Global Evolution
-- GSM EDGE (AT&T/Cingular in most metropolitan areas) 100-130Kb

Universal Mobile Telecommunications System
-- GSM UMTS (AT&T/Cingular in San Francisco Bay area, San Diego, Seattle, Dallas, Detroit, Phoenix, maybe more) 220Kb-2MB

... and under the "Who Carries" column, would it be appropriate to include the iMate PDA2K as a specific example of an unlocked option?

Thanks for the info.

But these phones don't have EDGE or UMTS.

I added Connecting ActiveSync over Bluetooth from scratch (with no USB PartnerShip). Which is what I think NoodeNT was asking for while on his road trip.

i-mate addition

Doh! Well, I'm glad you posted that, anyway. Oh, and there are a few unlocked CDMA imates running around out there, too-- "i-mate PDA2K-EVDO."

Maybe you could say…

-- Unlocked GSM i-mate PDA2K (most seem to use T-Mobile) WiFi with Camera
-- Telstra CDMA i-mate PDA2K (Australia) with Camera no WiFi (available now for 1,112.462 American Dollars, ouch!)

By the way... THANKS! I do not own any of these and have been holding out for the camera version. This FAQ is a fantastic help to me (and so many others). Thank you. I have never owned a PDA or a PPC, so this is very helpful to help me wrap my mind around this beast. THANK YOU!

Thanks, I added it.

Glad to see this helping folks. It's starting to come together. I will eventually inline some of How To links.

-- Sprint PPC-6601 CDMA no WIFI no camera
-- Sprint PPC-6600 CDMA no WIFI with camera
-- Verizon XV6600woc CDMA no WIFI no camera
-- Cingular SX66 GSM WIFI with Camera
-- T-Mobile XDA-III (Europe) GSM WIFI with Camera
-- Unlocked GSM i-mate PDA2K (most seem to use T-Mobile) WiFi with Camera
-- Unlocked CDMA i-mate PDA2K with Camera no WiFi

I'm not sure if I missed this, but what is the camera resolution on the models with cameras? Is it atleast 1MP or are we talking a retarded 0.3 MP?

I thought all the GSM phones had the camera and WIFI?
The camera is a "VGA" camera 640x480 (.3 Mega Pixel).
