A while back I purchased the Earthmate Blue Logger GPS, which came with their Street Atlas. It was pretty cool...
However, I have recently installed the TOM TOM Navigator software, and will never touch Street Atlas again!
Happy to report no issues using the Delorme Earthmate Bluetooth GPS with the 6601. No BT issues or loss of connectivity during my travels. The TOM TOM software is MUCH faster than the Delorme software, and calculates routes with much greater speed and accuracy.
The 3D driving mode is very cool, and the spoken directions are far clearer than Delorme.
All in all, I would say that this is the best solution for a PDA-GPS navigation system out there. I love the tiny, rechargable, inexpensive Earthmate Blue Logger, and the TOM TOM software is a joy to use, and works well on my 6601...
Incidentally, I was easily able to run the TOM TOM software, listen to an MP3, check email, and pull up a web page all at the same time with no hiccups, while running Wisbar. The 6601 performed very well switching between aps, and the MP3s didn't skip a beat (using Conduit Pocket Player). Put that in your 650 and smoke it ...
How are you liking TOM TOM with turning directions? I have been using Delorme Street Atlas for two years now and won't switch away. I tried Rand McNally but couldn't get that to work once I switched to a BlueTooth GPS unit, it also didn't have any accompanying handheld apps. I also tried Teletype which SUCKED to end...horrible GUI, out-dated maps, crap directions...horrendous!!
I gave Tom Tom a shot and do like the over head perspective. But on a couple of trips, I found the directions in quick-turn sequences to be very confusing. Curious as to how everyone else feels about the directions. Personally, I'm set with Delorme and can't see myself giving it up any time soon.

i've had the tomtom usa system since it came out. i've ordered a bluelogger and am looking at software to replace the tomtom software. tomtom is the best looking software around with a great interface but i am tired of its strange routes it comes up with. i've seen it try to direct me on police access roads, tell me to go up the road to turn around and go back the other direction. besides its problems they also recently scaled back features in the latest release. i'm looking for a product to replace it. the best one i've read about seems to be oncourse navigator. i hope i can get used to the differences between interfaces.
I'm about to order Co-Pilot Live and the Fortuna Clip-On from Expansys. Any one want to talk me into it or out of it.
My friend has the Fortuna and knows a lot about GPS systems, he is an instrument rated pilot and has had a dozen GPS units over the years.
The Fortuna has a mode that it can be switch into when under heavy folliage that picks up some other signal to work with. He said he has never needed it because it locks on so well.
It works fine on his H6315, and I paired it with the PPC-6601 (but did not run it).
He does not use Co-Pilot Live, he uses Mapopolus, but I want 3D views.
i was looking at copilot software too but i ad that the 3d mapping doesn't move along the screen the same way as the others. i liked alot of features about iguidance but i also wanted long distance capabilities. seems like ocn is one of the few softwares that offer all that.
A little late, but I've been using Teletype. I was really excited about some of the features that it was capabale of offering... until I found out that you need to pay a subcription to use the advanced features.
Pros
- Able to use contacts to pull addresses
- Voice prompts
- Fairly easy to operate once address is put in
- Able to load only the maps you need to storage card
- Able to custumize display options and voice
Cons:
- Will not work with Voice Command (Unless Voice Command is disabled, device is restarted, Teletype is activated, an Voice Command is reactivated through programmed button... everytime)
- Horrible address input interface (Compared to intelligent input programs)
- Subcription needed for advanced features
I just don't have the money to re-invest in another map software.
I use a Rikaline 6033 RFMD bluetooth GPS receiver. It's only good for car gps and nor for measuring short distances.
