Finally Got 6600 Working as USB Modem

I had 6600 working as bluetooth modem for laptop, but only got about 200k speed. Just got it working through USB as modem for laptop and got 409k! Thanks to mswlogo for posting wmodem for sprint at

http://www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/s...threadid=39348

Download EVDO drivers for laptop and dialer from Club I mate site.

Turn off Active sync on laptop.

Turn off EVDO connection on 6600 by holding end call button.

Start wmodem on phone

Plug phone into laptop via usb

When new hardware wizard starts, point to drivers downloaded from Club Imate site.

Start dialer.

Great job! Now, for us non-Club imate members, can anyone point us towards the drivers needed?

Sorry, but I am a little dense right now. How are you turning off AS? When I plug the usb in, it starts right back up.

Are you going into the task manager and ending wcesmgr or wcescomm?

D'oh That was too easy! Now how do I get the laptop to recognize the device. I plug it in, but the new hardware icon doesn't pop up. Looking under the device manager, it has it listed as "Pocket PC USB sync" when I connect it off AS. I tried updating the driver for it by directing it towards the files, but it doesn't want to install those. Any clue?

Make sure you have started wmodem before dropping the 6600 into the cradle. That should cause it to show up to the PC as a USB modem.

Whew! Finally got it. Didn't press the start button before I connected the cable. What an idiot!

Everything else went fine. It's a bummer that you can't receive a call during this function. That's one of the reasons I really like EVDO--even while active websurfing on the 6600 you can receive a call. Not the case as a modem. I went to dsl reports--I only got speeds at the 150-160 kbs range, but I was in a poor reception area. I'll retest in a better area later.

Thanks for all the help! Mods, we should make this a sticky.

The dialer and drivers need to be on the laptop not on the ppc. wmodem needs to be on the ppc. Above I attached the files for the laptop. ehud has the link for the wmodem.

Full Instructions for USB Modem

Download EVDO drivers for laptop and dialer from Club I mate site.
I figured that I would put all the files and instructions in one place to use the xv6600 as a usb modem for your laptop. I have achieved close to 500k with this.

Download attached wmodem and put on 6600.

Download attached dialer and drive and put on laptop.

Turn off Active sync on laptop. Go to File..connection settings and uncheck usb box.

Turn off EVDO connection on 6600 by holding end call button.

Start wmodem on phone. (attached below)

Make sure to pick USB on popup in wmodem and hit start button.

Plug phone into laptop via usb

When new hardware wizard starts, point to drivers attached below which should be on your laptop.

Start dialer.

I managed to get this working while i was in NYC but i was only getting 230kbps as opposed to the 400-500kbps i was suposed to be getting, every time i disconnect/reconnect i kept on getting the same speed regardless of the time of day. Is there a way to increase this or is it as good as it gets? Either way doesnt matter to me just want to know.

First make sure your xv6600 is connected to your computer via USB and you have launched WModem on the device. On your computer bring up your dial up program (should be dialup networking), click on properties. You should see the XV6600 as your modem and click configure. Mine was set to 230,000 kbs max, so I changed it to the highest number there and I am getting faster connection speeds. This might be the same for you, so give it a try.
