Never had issues with dropped signal over BT or USB. The high speed I saw in ATL was indeed USB. The BT is usually 200-300K.

I usually use speedtest and a few other sites to test true speeds vs. link speed displays.

200 to 300k with bluetooth is plenty fast enough for me. Bluetooth has a limit of somewhere around 700k anyway where usb 1.0 is 12mb...so that is most likely the problem. It's kinda like RAM. 133mhz ram slows down a system than 333mhz. The weakest link sort of thing. I am happy with those speeds.

I'm glad to see that you don't have any headaches either with the software.

Have you ever done a speedtest on your pda only. Not connected to the laptop? I tried to get the working model at verizon to do a speedtest. I was there for 45 minutes and I finally gave up.

Smartphone magazine (an England magazine) has the xv6600 replacement. It has wifi and it has a vga camera/video. Who knows when it will be here in the U.S. I hope in March to compete with the Samsung i730. It says internal memory is 128mb...i thought the xv6600 has 32mb...but I probably am wrong, because I imagine the xv6600 needs more than that. It looks like everything else is identical.

It says that the wifi feature uses significantly more battery life than the GPRS (I guess they dont have evdo in England).

Oh, and if someone will go look at my last post on page three of this thread to see what they think of that external antenna...I am tempted to buy it for my 5220 and it will plug into the xv6600...but I am wondering if it works and if there are other ones, etc.

Here's a neat software package:

DVD to Pocket PC - Install this software on your PC and it will convert DVD video to .wmv format files. These can then be transferred to your cell phone via a memory card. I'll post the links below.

Question. The review on this xv6600 says that the keyboard is difficult to use. It says the blackberry is far easier. I'm not that concerned, because I will probably use the frogpad for faster typing needs.

Spb Full Screen Keyboard www.spbsoftwarehouse.com

This converts your entire computer into a full size keyboard so you can use your thumbs instead of your stylus. I'm pretty skeptical as to whether it would really be that much better.

you can get many gps options for the 6600. i'm using a new blue logger bluetooth gps with tomtom software. i used to use the tomtom wired kit for the xda. read up on gps at gpspassion.com and pocketgps.co.uk. both have plenty of info.

I just got my Garmin GPS 10 deluxe yesterday and it works great with my xv6600. I had the Garmin ique3600 OS pda for 3 years and it was great but the os series was just not up to date with the Pocket PC so I sold the ique 3600 and bought the xv6600. I then tried the teletype gps system which was pure crap! so i promptly sold it and waited for the release of the new Garmin gps10. The bluetooth module paired perfect with the xv6600 and it now is the same gps functions as the ique had but with improved graphics!!!

Angry EVDO -USB Modem Speed

No matter what I do, the max speed I'm able to achieve via USB cable is @ 230Kb.

Any thoughts on actually getting 400-500Kb?

I'm in NYC or Boston Downtown mostly.

Thanks for any input.

Agreed t_squared. eejlee, if you're not using an online test site, you're not getting an accurate reading. 230k is just one of the windows built-in port settings.

Everything else went fine. It's a bummer that you can't receive a call during this function. That's one of the reasons I really like EVDO--even while active websurfing on the 6600 you can receive a call. Not the case as a modem. I went to dsl reports--I only got speeds at the 150-160 kbs range, but I was in a poor reception area. I'll retest in a better area later.

Thanks for all the help! Mods, we should make this a sticky.

i was just curious.....how is the web surfing on the 6600?.....is it like actually using a pc?....i mean that thing is 400mhz with 128mem......let me know

Not the same--PC's still have a much faster processor. But it does surf well--screen size is a limitation.

Surfing is much more enjoyable with Thunderhawk browser. I tried Nyditot virtual screen enlarger and it just isn't as good for getting the big picture when using PIE.

For example, Ebay is unusable with PIE, but works fine with TH so far (at least for browsing and searching and buying, don't know about selling).

Is TH significantly faster than browsing with PIE, i.e. on ebay?

I beta tested TH, but found it slow and buggy.

What about FTX?

The TH I downloaded on the 7th of Feb isn't slow or buggy - but I have found a site that gives it fits.

rxonline.epocrates.com after I log in - the log in page displays fine.

After logging in, PIE wants to load 10 different frames and gives up. TH loads the page, but when I click links on the page, it goes to a screen saying the browser wants to load a new window, do I want the original window or new. Clicking new brings up a 98% blank page with "epocrates.com" at the top. Clicking the back arrow, sometimes logs me out, sometimes takes me to the which page do I want screen, and sometimes to the correct new window.

Haven't tried FTX - what is that?

I haven't tried netfront either. Was planning to see if there is a version of Opera for PPC - the Symbian version I have rocks.

in the above, that should read "which page do I want" screen, as in "the screen which asks what page I want", errr, ummm... forget it.
