I just wonder if verizon will allow this for long???? It seems like they wouldn't.....and this is the main reason I purchased the phone and switched providers.

Shouldn't be a problem so long as they don't see significant data numbers on your account. By significant, I mean a few hundred megabytes per month. They're on the lookout for folks that stream videos/music or try to host a web site!
Connect phone with active sync. Press explore button in active sync. Drag wmodem to window that opens. Disconnect phone. Use file explorer to find the wmodem file. Click on it.
I dont believe there is any way for them to know that you are not using the built in browser of the phone as opposed to the USB connection to the laptop. This is usually tackled on the device side before it ships to customers by locking down the DUN capabilities which has not been done.
I need some help here. I must be really confused. When I drag the USB dialer to the XV6600 and then click on it in the Pocket PC it says this is not a valid Pocket PC application. What am I doing wrong?
Got the dialer on the laptop and dragged Wmodem to the open expore window for the ppc. finally found wmodem but when I touch it with my stylus is says: there is no application associated with wmodem. run the application first then open the file from within the application. Honestly I really do not know where to look for Wmodem.. I think I just found it. also when I hold down the end key the 6600 will disconnect but then keeps trying to call out??
by the way thanks so much for your help and quick response...
I'm suspecting you put wmodem.zip on the Pocket PC.
What you want to do is unzip the file (on your desktop). Then take wmodem.exe and the .inf file and copy them to your Pocket PC. You can save them in "My Documents" if you like... it doesn't matter.
Then click on wmodem.exe and it should run just fine.

Not without knowing what you're going to use for a modem. Check out this site ( http://www.thesupplynet.com/ ) for all sorts of cabling solutions.

Also, does anyone know how to upgrade the Thera to to PPC2003? [/b]
I have a Thera also - It's the equivalent of the Toshiba 2032 - and I've not yet seen a source for upgrading beyond the current 2002.
I've tried the WModem program, included in my software CD, and connected my laptop to the internet via my PPC6601 as a USB wireless modem. Surprisingly it is very very slow compared to connecting to vision via CDMA 1xrtt, and to my home broadband.
I was able to test once on dslreports.com, as all sites were very busy this morning, and the result was:
73 kbps Down
115 kbps up
Usually the down link is much faster than the up link. With my home broadband I get arounf 8mbps down/3mbps up. With my vision and mobile speed I get 125-142 kbps.
Has anyone tried Wmodem, or another DUN program, with their PPC6601 or XV6600? What kind of speeds are you getting?
What did you expect? CDMA 1xrtt is still way slower than broadband. You need EVDO to even go near BroadBand speed and even then latency is still large and Network load play a factor.
8mbps down /3mbps up is probably way over estimated what are you testing with?
2mbps down / 0.5mbps up is the typical theortical cable modem settings.
I think you missed my point. I'm not comparing 1Xrtt to broadband. But I compared my PPC6601 as a USB modem to both (1Xrtt and broadband) by using dslreports speed tests.
I'm only able to achieve 22-115kbps up link, and 25-73kbps downlink on the USB modem setup, mostly towards the lower end. That's why I asked others what they were getting.
Btw, I noticed some say they get 230kbps. This is your port connection, not your throughput. Please post your DSLReports speed tests

thanks
The FAQ have a link to mac users using the 6600 to connect with bluetooth (via the mac side, not virtual PC) - I added some comments on what I did to make it work with my Verizon XV6600, since it looked like it was geared for sprint users.

Here is my issue. When I run wmodem.exe, it shuts off phone capabilities, which I am fine with. I turn off USB activesync. Computer doesn't find a USB modem. No matter what I do. Is there something minor that I am missing? I followed Ehud's site, trying to get it to work. This is all just for fun, since I have broadband at home, but I would rather get it to work here before going someplace I need it. Anybody else having trouble getting the laptop to recognize the modem?
