Expansys PDA2k cables not the same

I assumed that the PDA2k (GSM version of PPC6601) would use the same cables.

This place has all sorts of stuff listed for PDA2K.

I ordered this

http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=109740

And the woman substituded this and assured me it was identical

http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=IPAQFCAR

Seeing lots of cables listed for PDA2k, XDAII and imate, I thought I was safe buying this.

http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=109732

I was going to test these cables out on a phone going back to sprint

But neither cable has that notch in it. On the flat side.

The cables do go in, but they are just kinda wedging in there.

I didn't see th epoint in risking it,even for the phone going back. These are not the right cables.

I think it's all XDA II stuff and it's different.

I purchased the minisync and versa charger from Boxwave. No problems.

I don't think it has anything to do with Sprint. HTC decided what connector and devices to make.

Does the boxwave have the "notch" in the connector. Not one picture showed a notch. Just like expansys did.

I could have used what Expansys sent but they are not the right connectors.

Hmm

I was pondering buying a secondary battery based on the pda2k stuff from expansys.

'Wonder if I should roll the dice on that one...

I'm gambling on a battery from http://www.imatephonestore.com I'll let you know how it goes. It was listed as 1600mah. Probably a typo.

From Top to Bottom

1st is original power adapter supplied with phone (notice the notch)
2nd is http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=109732
3rd is http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=IPAQFCAR
4th is Socket in PPC-6601 phone (notice the shinny notch)

I don't trust anything that says, it's compatible with XDA or XDA-II

I bought the boxwave minisync as well. It does not have the notch, but there is ample clearance as you are inserting the connector. I can see that the connector slides in under the metal tab, without deflecting it. The plastic on the connector housing is much thinner on the boxwave connector than on the original. So far it is great, especially the aspect of charging the phone from my desktop or laptop with the tiny cable and not having to figure out where to plug in another DC adapter...

Would you mind taking some shots with the box wave next to the the original. Granted what you say is possible. It was not true on what I bought. The ones I bought were thinner than the original but not as "paper thin" as it was in the notch area of the original. I could also tell the difference in how nicely the original fit in versus what I bought (it got tighter as it went in too, not so with the original). I'm trying to wait for real HTC parts. I love the fit and finish of what came with it.

Attached is a picture showing the oem charger adapter (top) and the boxwave cable (bottom). I had not looked at them next to eachother. Indeed the notch is missing on the boxwave one, like the expansys one. The last 3rd party ones I am aware of are the two from Pocket PC Techs:

http://www.pocketpctechs.com/detail....=XDA-LILSYNC02

http://www.pocketpctechs.com/detail....XDA-LILSYNCP02

They don't show the business end of the connector in their pictures.

Scott,

I really appreciate you taking the pictures.

I have marked the problem in red on your pictures.

The area in Red is also where the fellow on XDA-Developers.com manually notched his.

You don't need the notch, the boxwave connecter pictured has no notch and works perfectly anyway. I have the same one as pictured and it snaps in just fine...

I returned my cables to Expansys and just ordered the Car Adapter From Sprint. Picture is not comforting but I'm crossing my fingers. They said they won't carry the USB cable.

http://www.sprintpcsaccessories.com/...186&mfg=Sprint

I'll let report back if it's the reall McCoy or not.

P.S. I claim if it does not have notch you are Jamming it in. Yes plastic is soft and tolerance is loose that there is not much resistance. But I can tell a huge differnce in putting in the original that came with the phone (which has the notch) and ons that don't.

begging your pardon, but which notch are you looking for? I have no camera (other than the old i700) so if you can show me a picture and tell me "there should be a notch here" or something like that I can look at it.

I've been using it for a week. Syncs fine. Charges off the laptop and the 12v/120v usb adapter.

The pictures showing the right and wrong connectors are in this thread. Scroll back.

If you found a cable with the proper notch then please take a close up picture of the connector and post it.

No camera.
Scott329's upper picture is a reasonable cross section. However, looking at the top of the connector I see three notches... two at the sides and one in the middle.

It's possible the middle one was worn by me using this for one week, but that's unlikely.

The top picture is the correct connector (what comes with the phone).

The bottom one is the wrong connector (mechanically) Boxwave for MDAII. Which is what I think you have too.
