There is no deep cutout middle notch. Is that what you mean?

Yes. that's not good. And if you look at the phone there is a metal key that goes into that "deep cutout".

They key does not protrude that much. Which is why you can Jam in the wrong connector.

Its funny following this forum versus over a year at howardforums, this forum is so behind the times! (for obvious reasons)

Anyhow, you shouldn't use XDA-II / MDA-II / i-Mate Pocket PC accesories with your VX6600......HOWEVER, you can use XDA-IIs / MDA-III / PDA2K accesories with your device! I have all 3 models at the moment: PDA2K, SX66, and VX6600 and they all have the notch (well duh! they are the same freaking hardware!)!

Most companies List one part number for Both XDA-II, MDA-II, VX6600, XDA-IIs, MDA-III, PDA2K. That's the problem !!! Box Wave does not tell you the part number and seperates every device. By seeing the pictures scott329 posted of the boxwave it is quite obvious they are using the MDA-II connector. Just like Expansys did. The pictures speak for themselves.

Here are 2 examples of venders lumping 2nd and 3rd generation devices together. BoxWave is doing the same thing but you won't find out until you get it in your hand.

Update:

The example I gave for Expansys was not appropriate. They actually do list them as seperate part numbers. But I ordered the PDA2k one and the substituded the MDA-II one.

When they did the swap they said the UK store had the original part number I had ordered and the stock numbers on the web site is based out of the UK.

They also do have part numbers for PDA2k for other accessories and are not due until early Febuary.

I just checked my order. I got the II substituted as well.

Should I really quit using it? It has been working flawlessly now for over a week...

That is a personal choice. I just wanted folks to be aware that there is a choice. I just like things to fit well (I'm a nut about stuff like this) and be designed for proper match. For example I always go to the car dealer for parts even though I pay through the nose. But I have less headaches and wasted time with parts that work but don't quite match the OEM parts. Sometimes after market parts can be better. But you really have to know what you are doing and spend a lot of time investigating.

Also in this case some parts for this phones are OEM parts. But they are OEM parts for the wrong phone.

oh great and wonderful Oz...............

What is the final answer? I ran my phone down to 19% today. (Performed flawlessly and didn't hickup on ANYTHING, but that low level isn't comfortable.) I need to get a wall charger and a car charger. What is the right answer for these? I was pretty high on getting the Boxwave stuff until I read this.

I had the tab break on my Treo. NO FUN. And you know if you do insurance replacement twice in 12 months, they cancel you...... (ask me how I know).

Anyway, I am also looking at the ProClips mount for the car, but that shouldn't affect anything.

mswlogo - you compile some great info, but you sure do make it hard on those of us just purchasing to make a final choice!!!

Thanks for your input....

I can only tell you my choice. I'm not gonna tell people what to get. But I will correct people when they claim that something is the "correct" device when I know it isn't. Or correct them when they try to tell me I'm wrong. I'm waiting for the OEM accessories. But I'm a picky SOB.

Supposedly some Verizon folks have got some accessories already. The carriers usually have OEM stuff (but not always).

Sprint says they have the car charger and I have one on the way.

Expansys looks like they are getting the correct stuff in Early February.

The i-mate store called me telling me my backorder on the spare battery is in.

So the stuff is starting to come in now.

I'll be honest... having an i-mate prior to my PDA2k, I just figured that the i-mate charger adapter would work and tried it... and sure enough it started charging! Same for my car adapter, Lil' Sync and my car PDA mount... until you mentioned the notch, I never noticed it because I have never had any resistance or problems with the XDA II adapters.

Like you said, it's a choice. I figure that since they work, I'll just keep right on charging and syncing with the XDA II adapters.

FYI, I just got this email from i-mate phone store

George,

Thanks for the information.

All our products are for the SX66 & PDA2K. We don't have any accessories for the imate pocket pc / mdaii, even though they may be erroneously listed as such.

Just an update.

Received the Sprint Car Adapter today and it indeed has the correctly notched connector.

It is not as nice a quality as the connector that comes with the phone, but it's very clearly made for the phone and not an XDA II cable.

Does that mean I can get the Sprint charger for my Verizon XV6600? Sorry I am a newbie and seem a little confuse.

Thanks.

notch in cable. what's it for?

I have a cable bought from amazon merchant that looks similar to boxwave cable but was listed as a 6600 accessory. When I hook up I can charge my VX6600 but no active sync...Does anyone think that turning on ActiveSync may be the purpose of the notch?

Just wanted to confirm with folks that I received my Sync Cable from PDAPhones.com today and it is indeed the correct connector on the end. Exactly the same connector you get with the Dongle that comes with the phone. This is the real thing.

msw, can you tell me more about this sync cable from pdaphones? I can't seem to find the one you're talking about.

I just received one from boxwave and there is no way I'm jamming that in there. It doesn't have the notch, and it is very tight on my phone (XV6600).

Thanks for all your info. -Jay
