Louder Ringers???

I think I remember seeing something about making the ringtones louder. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I would surely appreciate it.

Oh, and if you have cool sites that are good for ringtones, that would be an added help too.

I know, such a newbie

search the ppc forums here for that kind of info. the i7 forum and the G fourm.

you can make your own rigntones and using audacity (music program) you can normalize your ringtones to get the maximum output without distrorting them.

search is your friend....

Thanks. My previous searches offered no solution.

Maybe this will help.

Marc,

While I don't doubt you guys have discussed this, I have been unable to find it via search myself... so if you can find it, please share.

As for volume, I thought you had to use software to resample it at a louder volume... as in altering the WAV file itself.

That would be correct - you would need a sound editor like Sound Forge or something less expensive to do it. Simply load the file, edit it and then save it. Works great!

There is a free program called Wavepad that will allow you to amplify a wav file very easily. I don't know much about such software and I was able to figure it out with no problems, so I'd recommend it to anyone who is new to this.

in audacity, you can normalize the file. this will set it to the maximum DBfs right under clip point.

sound forge is a great tool also, but has more features that you would care to use just for ringer wave editing...

thanks for the tip on audacity....it works well.

I had to use wavepad to convert the file to wav and then use audacity to "normalize".

It still turned out like rubbish. NBD I'll still try to fiddle with it.

Oh by the way, here is a site for searching wav files.

lol @ rubbish....

you also dont want the sound to be too large in size as it wil take up a lot of memory.

there is a plugin for audacity that will convert if im not mistaken. i think i saw that on the audacity home page...

you may also want to lower any low frequencies in the file also. the speaker(s) in the 01 cant produce the low freq. well and you can cause distortion in the file...

OK....since I am not too great with the ringtone converting, loudness making, switch back and forthing, could anyone lend a hand at some decent ringtones that have some ooomph?

Maybe we could link them to this thread and make a sticky?

OK before we jump the gun here, maybe I should look for forum rules.....I always wait til the last minute...

Seriously, if anyone has some decent ones that you could email me, I would be greatly appreciative

I had heard about that normalizing stuff, but I downloaded it and it was way too confusing for me! If you don't amplify more than 200% the sound quality remains decent, particularly when you consider that you're only hearing it through the crappy speaker on the device...

hey amby,

yeah it depends on the music you are trying to work with. if it has a lot of low end and high percussive transients, you can only do so much to a file like that.

also, the encoding is important as well. you dont need to record in stereo, mono will be better and wll reduce the overall file size.

Hmmm, due to ignorance on my part that first paragraph made no sense at all The second was helpful though, thanks! I got a program that allows you to assign individual ringtones and I'm running out of space. It's very helpful to know how to make them smaller!

I just tried this and I was unable to go to the next page. I was able to look at different files by changing the filter....but not next page. Just thought you'd like to know.
