On my SprintPCS ppc6600 I got the Jabrafreespeak250 to work in about 2min.
Its clear up to about 20 feet away, but the funny thing is when the “pocketPC” is in my “Pocket”, the headset becomes very distorted and really hard to hear... is it just my hot legs or what?
Also, I used my phone for the first time out on a trip for work last week. I used the Streets & Trips all day, camera, and made many phone calls. At the end of the day the battery was about 20%.
Now, today was the first full day of using the Bluetooth headset. I only made about 6 calls and played a few games of pool while sting at my desk. By the time I was leaving for home my battery was critically low! Is this common with the Bluetooth? If so, its not worth it.
FINALLY!! After 4 BT headsets I found one that actually works. I had a Scala 500, Moto HS820, Belkin, and a BlueTrek.
They either had too much static, back ground hiss, low volume (what did you say?!!?) or didn't fit very well.
I orderd the new Logitech from Techdepot for about $54 US after taxes and shipping and I could not be happier. It pairs very quickly, sounds great (no hiss and very little static, if any at all) and has range like none of the others. I have gone further that 30' line of sight and been through not only walls but levels of a 2-story appt.
I used it walking across a very windy parking lot today and not only could I hear the other person, but they could hear me. Also had it in my friends new Vette (very nice by BTW) going about 60 or so and I could still hear. The Logitech Windstop is no joke.
It is a little larger than some of the others, but not too bad. Once its on it feels solid although it takes some practice to become proficient at getting it on. Overall I think the difference in quality may be due to the BT 1.2 profile of the headset. I am using BT build 3900 and leave BT on all the time.
BT800 headset by Jabra. Works great caller ID function also works great (didn't work on Treo 650) and it answers also but i have to hit the answer key multiple times. Can't complain paid over a hundred dollars for it so I shouldn't have to complain but great headset.

I spoke too soon about the bt-3900b stack working correctly with the Acura TL. The Bluetooth capabilities of this phone are still woefully poor, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how it can be so challenging for them to get Bluetooth correct when my previous phone worked beautifully with the Acura HFL.
Examples:
--We've already noted that the HFL doesn't pick up the batter life/signal indicator. I can live with that.
--Frequently when I get in the car, the HFL doesn't find the phone. When I turn the phone on an check out the Bluetooth icon in the lower-right hand corner, there's an red X through it. When I pull up the Bluetooth menu, it tells me Bluetooth is enabled. Then all of a sudden it connects and the red X goes away. It's like the Bluetooth has to be jolted awake manually by turning on the phone and pulling up the menu. If I don't do that, the HFL never finds the phone.
--This is extremely problematic: Frequently, when the phone has paired up, when I leave the care the phone still thinks the HFL is paired. So when I subsequently make or receive a call on the phone, the headphone icon is still on, I can't hear anything, and neither can the other person. Apparently the only way out of this state is to reboot the phone. Hmmm... I can't live with a phone that I have to reboot every time I get out of the car.
The last one is a show-stopper for me; I may have to decide that as long as I own this phone I can never use the HFL. Very frustrating.
Has anyone else experienced these problems? Is there a solution?
I had the same problem with the Bluetooth having a red X through it when pairing with my Prius. Sometimes it would not pair and sometimes it would lose the connection after being paired. Are you using any Today addins? I uninstalled my Sprint battery watch and I dont seem to see the problem any more. Even so, Sprint is going to swap out my PPC6600 (btw I did not have this problem with my 6601 after applying the 3900 patch). I will let you know. This has been reported in another thread and was attributed to a bad Bluetooth radio. The suggestion was to exchange the phone. We will see.
Prius 2004 pairs with Treo 650 ok. Drops calls if a "Call Waiting" comes in. Very unacceptable! Both calls drop. Address Book upload is problematic. PRius does not allow any ( ) or - symbols in phone numbers. must reformat your entries to comply.
Plontronics 2500 headset is not working well. Paired with some work to 6600 and Treo 650. Sound was not acceptable however. Breaks up even in close proximity. This was true on both PDAs, even with full recharge on headset. Tried two plantronics units. Second one was not much better.
Could not get Plantronics headset to work in Prius because Prius wanted to pair with Treo as the ''Hands Free" unit. Could not easily defeat this without going through major hassle to re-pair the headset and the treo later for use outside of the car.

I want one - but can you tell me the model? I'm guessing it's the Mobile Bluetooth Freedom Headset that ECOST has today for $36.50 - since it seems to have the best reviews.
I have both the Scala-500 $35 and JabraBT250 $99 and found both to pair easily and work moderately well - but anytime I'm near WiFi networks the headsets are overcome by static issues.
Just got my 6600 from VZW 2 days ago and a MOT HS820 headset.
Paired up right away.. works so far.. I'll post if any problems.

Does anyone know if the HS820 has any trouble through pockets, how far it works without breaking up in static, and how long it takes for the headphone to pick up the call (number of rings)? I really want to purchase one next week but need something with decent range, fast pick-up and can work through pockets.
I had an HS820 and it paired very quickly. It did NOT work through my pocket very well at all. The main complaint about it was the volume. Unless you are in a quiet surrounding, it will be tough to hear. I found myself pressing it against my ear all the time. I still stand by the new Logitech Mobile Freedom. Its my 5th one and the only one that has worked well in all conditions.

Ah, well, I was hoping to get the HS820 as it looked smaller than the Logitech Mobile Freedom, but I don't want to sacrifice functionality for style.
One question though - has anyone tried the Bluespoon AX and seen if it works through pockets, with decent range, and picks up the call decently fast?

I am experiencing a similar problem. I am using a Moto HS-810. It pairs and connects quickly 100% of the time. All in all I LOVE the HS-810. But I notice that once I have used the BT headset just ONCE during a call. If I then turn off the headset, and try to answer a call by using the phones speaker/mic, I can't hear anything and the mic dosen't work, but only for the phone function (the mic still works OK for MS VC, recording etc.).
The little headphone icon appears with an "x" by it to signify that the BT is not there, but for some reason the phone can't/dosen't switch the internal earphone/mic back on if the headset can't be found. A soft reset fixes this, and the internal speaker/mic will then work again for calls, until I use the BT headset again for a call.
Inteeresting to note, I can turn on the BT headset (after a soft reset) and make the headphone icon appear. Turn off the BT headset, make the icon disappear. The phone will still use it's internal speaker/mic for calls properly. It only quits if the BT headset is actually used during a call. I suspect they have a small software controlled mixer in the phone, that isn't getting switched back to "internal mode" once a BT headset has been activated.
I'll bet this is a software prob. which is why I made this msg so long and detailed. I hope Audiovox/Sprint is reading...
SO guys, pse add this to your list of fixes for the next rev OK?
An oddity I have noticed and maybe the more expert types will say, "Duhhh".
Using a BT GPS, I have always dbl-tapped on it in the BT Manager to get it to pair. Then I open software. I've noticed that it unpairs after I shut down the software. I found that irritating as I always had to go back to the BT Mgr and re-pair it to use it again. I thought that this might be an iteration of the BT dropping off problem.
I happened to be messing with it today and found that GPS programs will make the BT pair with the GPS automatically on starting the program. After I close the program, it unpairs.
The obvious question: Is this normal and expected?
I've been using the Jabra Freespeak 250 for a couple of months with my Siemens SX66. Initially there was quite a bit of static and the range was terrible. Both have improved considerably with the latest firmware install. I still get static when the SX isn't operating in the phone mode.
I take it back... The Jabra Freespeak 250 sucks! I have used for about two weeks and the static is insane. I have to have it at least 6 feet from me to be able to hear it. forget having on your hip...
My friend just got the Motorala and seems to like it....
