I got it just as a temp fix until I found a nice stylish one (thought it was the plantronics discovery 640 but the static was unbearable) but I have decided to keep this one.
I ended up taking back the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Akono Headset HBH-600 as the battery life suxors... If I didn't have it charged every night then there was no way I could get through the day with it. I was using it the same amount as the plantronics discovery 640 which never gave me power issues, just static issues. in terms of overall sound quality the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Akono Headset HBH-600 gave the best sound for both users (me and the person on the other line) but I may go back the the Plantronics 640.... I'm hoping that it was just my item that was staticy and not the entire line of them.

I tried the Moto HS-850, the same problems as the HS-820. Loose connectivity when the phone cut itself off. Otherwise, when they are connected, they will work fine.

Blue Tooth Devices

I've tried both the Jabra 250 and the HS850. They both work. However, when someone calls, several rings go by without registering in the earpiece. Consequently, many calls are missed.

I'd like to know if anyone has gotten an headset to activate MS Voice Command. This would make the phone complete.

BTW, I've got the following equipment to work on my XV6600.

1. Jabra 250 headset.
2. Motorola HS850
3. Think Outside Bluetooth Key Board.
4. Thiink Ouside Bluetooth Mouse.
5. Anycom bluetooth wireless access point (used to connect to my wireless network at home to surf the web. Faster than 1xRTT. has only a 20' to 30' range).
6. Belkin Bluetoon Wireless Access point. (The Anycom is better and has slightly more range).

ok so I'm on my 7th Bluetooth earpiece and I have found a winner that stands very tall above all others for multiple reasons. It's the Cardo Scala-500.

I have tried 2 of the Moto's, 2 Plantronics (including the discovery), a jabar, and a Sony Ericson (which had the best quality out of these 6 but had terrible battery life)

The Cardo Scala-500 starts of with 9 hours of talk time... drool. This is the only one so far that has given me 0 static from talking w/ my 6600 in my car, being on my hip, while I'm at work surrounded by computers, or kitchen appiances. The volume is great and easily adjustable. (Moto's volume was terrible compared to this)
This is extremely comfortable and light weight. And has a very nice and soft rubber like texture around most of the body.

Callers can hear me perfectly fine and I hear them w/ no issues at all, and this device has some anti wind technology so that must be another reason for the great clarity. it's very small which I love, Paired flawlessly, and came w/ a boat load of extra.

It CAME WITH a car charger, some clippy thing to attach it to your glasses, a neclace rope thingy, a belt clip, and a wall chager.

Oh and it was only $59 at CompUSA or $37 on Amazon.com...

Yeah I have found a winner, and after registering on their website they send you some ear gel accessories for free, unless you're outside the U.S. then you pay for the shipping.

*does the happy dance

*edit update- Can you say LOUD... I have to keep it around 60%- 70% volume as it can get way to loud (which is a good thing compared to not being loud enough)

Bluetooth Success PPC 6600!!!

Okay, here is what I have been able to do with my PPC and Bluetooth

1. Print from my phone directly to my printer (with bluetooth adapter): word, excel, email, browser windows

2. Activesync

3. File transfer to/from Bluetooth folder on my PC

4. Dial-up internet

5. Wireless headset

That's all I've tried.

Thumbs up Plantronics Discovery 640

I just want to note that the Plantronics Discovery 640 is far and away the best headset I've used yet.
Connects quickly and stays connected.
Clear and almost too loud.
Extremely comfortable. Light and small while still feeling solid and well built.
Discreet- other people around can't hear what is being received like on the MotoHS820.
Versatile- works with my other chargers and has adapters for recharging via AAA battery, D/C (auto) or A/C.
Easy to use.

Thanks guys for the info on the headsets. I may try out the Plantronics and Cardo Scala. I like the feel of the Jabras but the BT 250 was not good. I may try the BT 500.

I also plan on buying the I-Phono Stereo earpeices 450. I tried the I-Phono 420s and they worked great and the sound was clear. I have the BT3500 w/BtCeStak.dll 3601 also.

I also want to report that the handsfree profile works quite will with my new Audi A6 Avant (Dynamite Car). It paired easily. I can use Voice Command by hitting the button on the 6600 and then the car speakers and mike take over. I cannot initiate calls with Voice Command (an A2DP BT stack to initiate Voice Command from any BT device is not available yet as I understand it). However, I can use the cars controls to answer incomming calls, and initiate outgoing calls through the car so long as I've preprogramed phone numbers into the cars system.

By the way, the Audi automatically pairs with the xv6600 as soon as I get in the car. This is just plain cool.

Now if someone would create a BT stack to let us activate Voice Command from a bluetooth headset, that would be very very cool.

Also, cool would be to be able to play music from the xv6600 over the Audi's stereo.

Hopefully, Microsoft will work on their own Bluetooth Stacks which will allow all this and have a patch for Pocket PC 2003. From what I understand, they don't even have these features on Windows Mobile 5.0

Thanks guys for all your info.

The Scala-500 had better volume and quality than the mobile freedom and close to zero static compared to the plantronics discovery 640 (and I had 2 of them).

And it's only $37 on Amazon which is the most competitive price around for the quality. (and I love the fact it comes w/ a car charger)

I just bought 2 usb Bluetooth adapters from ebay at $0.99 each w/ $9 shipping on both, brand new from the store they are like $39 so it's a nice bargan. I hope to make a little bluetooth network w/ my computers and ppc6600. Has anyone done this yet?

Thanks to everyone who has posted their reviews.

Am I the only who finds this thread hard to use as a resource for shopping for earpieces? It seems for every positive review there is a negative. Not to mention, that is spread out over 17 pages. It would be nice to have a poll on the more popular peices.

I might as well mention that the body glove blue voice ear piece I just recently purchased is terrible. Volume is way too low and majorly inconsistant static problems.

Yes I had posted about how terrible the bodyglove is.
A poll doesn't really do the trick as new models are always coming out and then you have models like mine (Scala-500) which is over 1 year old but it was considered a high end executive model back then, now it's only $37.

The best thing to do in large threads like this is to read the last 5 or 6 pages as those posts won't be that old, stuff on pages 8 or 9 will be old news when the more recent pages will have more up to date info for you.

I just found a thread with a poll and your right it still wasn't "that" informative. I'm affraid to end up with 6 devices that don't work. I just wish there was a solid, proven earpiece out there.

bluetooth technology is still evolving so right now there is no solid piece that everyone can agree on because of range, static, and compatibility issues. Not to mention volume preferences.
The only one that I can whole heartedly recommend is the one I use and I have gone through a number of different brands/models.

I just received a Jabra BT500 hoping that it would be an improvement over the Jabra BT250 which I lost.

Here's what I'm finding, The BT500 seems to connect a little quicker than the BT250. However, there is a lot of static just like the BT250. Furthermore, if one wears the 6600 on your belt on the opposite side of the body opposite the ear where the BT device is, the reception is poor.

I previously tried the Motorola HS850. The reception was good, but the part which goes behind the ear is too narrow and dug into my ear. The 850 would have been fine but for that fact.

I am now going to try the Anycom HS-890 which has got good reviews in Europe. I have seen very few reveiws but its features look good. I'll post my findings when I get it in a couple days.

I'm also waiting on the Blue Take I-Phono BT450rx bluetooth stereo headset. I tried their BT420 bluetooth stereo headset with my verizon xv6600 (after the A2DP - High Quality Audio bluetooth stack upgrade) and it sounded absolutlely fantastic. The BT420 was being used with a Noki phone with the A2DP profile also. I must say the xv6600 sounded much better. Again, it's too bad Microsoft hasn't put the effort into making bluetooth stacks which can use all the command/control features of the available bluetooth devices. I hear they're on to it but they didn't even include the needed features in their WM 5.0. (Get to work Microsoft, I'd pay for the upgrade if you make it backward compatible with WM 2003 SE).

I also see good reviews of the Plantronics 520 Voyager. If the Anycom doesn't give me satisfaction, that's where I'm going next.

the Cardo Scala looks funky but comfortable. I haven't read outstanding review of this unit either.

I ordered the Anycom just for fun. I've heard nothing but good reviews about the plantronics. I'll have to try it out too.

I think that the SonyEricsson HBH-608 may be simply the best headset ever! I charged this thing on Monday, and with average talk time it is STILL going strong on friday without any charging! I am quite simply amazed. no other Bluetooth headset has ever lasted this long. Sony has a winner here.

I take back what I said about the Jabra BT500. I almost sent it back. However, I also purchased an Anycom HS-890.

The HS-890 is the most comfortable and lightest headset I've tried. However, It keep disconnecting from the xv6600. I'll need to see if there's a fix for that.

Back to teh BT500. There was a lot of static when I first started using it. Now it seems to work quite well and is also comfortable. The controls are much easier to find than the BT250 series. Battery life seems good.

I have been using the Bluetake I-Phono 450rx stereo headset with the xv6600 for several days now. It works great. The sound is crisp and clear as long as the device is within a meter of me. If walk 3 meters away and look directly at the xv6600, the sound is still good. However if I turn at all, static returns. This is not a problem since I usuall keep my xv6600 in my coat or pant pockets.

Thanks to the recommendations on this forum, the first BT headset I tried was the Logitech Mobile Freedom. It pairs easily and stays paired, and the sound quality and volume are quite good. And it was less than $40. Holds a charge long enough for my needs, too. The buttons are simple and intuitive.

Also, the iPaq stereo headphones that are recommended in this forum work great for me. Reliable range of at least 5 meters. (Search this site for instructions to get these headphones to work with the 6600. A little bit of work but worth it.)

The iTrek M3 GPS receiver is amazingly flawless. And it seems to go weeks without needing a charge.
