A few things I want to figure out how to do..., but documentation is WEAK.
played with it a bit more last night. Here's what I want to do... I don't care much about "push" -- though it would be nice. As long as my phone can poll our server every 10-15 minutes and pull down anything new, I'd be fine. Activesync had synced up my inbox, contacts, etc. with my DESKTOP outlook. What I want to be able to do is send/rec. emails in pocket outlook and have them be the same as the desktop. If I send an email on pocket device, save it in sent mails for a few days, but make sure it is on desktop also. If I permanently delete an email on the ppc or move it to another folder i want to do the same on the desktop when it syncs. The problem is that to send/rec, i have to create an account and I end up with two sets of inboxes, deleted items, junkmail, etc. How do I correct this? We are using a unix email system at work that supposedly is fully imap compliant, but currently i'm just experimenting with pop3.
I never got this complex of a solution for my treo 600. I think I tried every single mail system on the market and never got just a simple "clone" of my desktop with a limit on the amount of email ppc has to store -- say last 5 days or so...
This is probably my single biggest issue.
Next will be bluetooth headseat functionality with the ability to activate voice command from the bluetooth headseat. Anyone make this work? Which bluetooth device? Basic Instructions?
My third level of importance would be to get the bluetooth dial up networking stable when my laptop is using my ppc as a modem. I saw a post describing wmodem as the way to do it, but I've done this before with other devices using the provided DUN profile. I had it up and running, but not stable. I kept getting weird network busy messages and disconnects. It could just be the reception in my office, though, and DUN there is irrelevant since I have a LAN connection.
I haven't done what you are trying to do with email, and I'm not sure its possible with Pocket Outlook, but if it is... it would require IMAP in both places... desktop and pocketpc. What I do is a bit different. I don't look at my Pocket PC as a permanent storage location for anything, so I just use POP. I do NOT sync my email via ActiveSync, and I don't think you want to do that either... it will confuse things if I'm correct here. IMAP will keep the folders synced between server and workstation. So if you let your desktop Outlook use IMAP, then the server will always be in sync with your desktop. Likewise, your Pocket PC will be the same when you sync via IMAP... if my theory is correct. Alternatively, you could NOT use wireless to sync email at all, and only sync to your desktop via ActiveSync... but I don't think that's what you want to do.
Back to the way I use it.... I just sync via POP from Pocket PC, and not activesync at all. This means anything that comes to my Pocket PC, is also going to go to my desktop when I sync there. That way I don't have to mess with filing anything on the Pocket PC... I just use it to respond to urgent emails, and I purge it periodically. Nothing deleted from Pocket PC deletes from desktop in this scenario. The only thing you have to worry about is that you have no desktop copy of sent emails, so if I send something I want a copy of, I cc another of my email addresses that gets synced to my desktop. This all seems to work pretty well, but may not be what you want.
If they ever get the Blackberry client working on this, THAT would be the way to go...
I do not believe you can use Voice Command by activating it from your wireless headset. What you could do is tie Voice Command to a hardware button, and then the headset should work. This would be easier than digging in and starting it with a stylus. I've not used VC, so I could be wrong, but I know a lot of people have played with it on the h6315.
I haven't gotten to trying it yet, but I've used other devices as a wireless modem, and it worked pretty well... occaisionally it would drop the connection when in weak areas, so that may be your problem. See if you can do a test in a better coverage area. Also be aware that your Terms of Service with Sprint could be violated if you are using the device as a wireless modem frequently... I wouldn't plan to use it a lot, or you could have problems with them.

That's exactly how I use my treo with snappermail... Pop 3 pull messages and "junk them" if they are trash. When I get back to office. I was hoping to hang onto the sent mails without having to CC. I'm not sure I understand why pocket outlook wouldn't offer a solution. Basically it seems so simple to me. Choose which folders you want to stay in sync and be able to choose, for each folder, how much history on the PPC. So I would sync inbox, deleted, junk, and sent. I'd not keep junk history and I'd keep deleted for a couple of days on device and sent/inbox for a week or so in case I'm somewhere and I need a message. I know I can do something similar with IMAP but I don't know if my network admin is going to be happy with me keeping 1gb plus on the server...
On the bluetooth headset I would have to assume that someone soon will devise a software way to initiate voice command from a bluetooth headset. Until we see that hack, I'll avoid a BT headset since it will probably be device specific....
On the last, i don't plan to often to tether my notebook, but in an emergency I might need it and it's nice to know it's there.
I wouldn't rule out a Bluetooth headset just because it doesn't work with VC. Remember you have eBay to get rid of it if you want. I would highly doubt that there will be a solution to fix this. If you think about it, it would most likely need to be a change to the Bluetooth profile to get something like that to work, and I don't see them changing. My rule with pdaPhones is always this... plan on it NEVER getting upgraded, and you will be much happier.
I like the freedom of a Bluetooth headset while in the car. It isn't that hard to hit a button on the device to start Voice Command, and you don't even have to look at it to do so. You might program the button that defaults to Media Player, just below the volume control. Then if you carry it in your pocket, or in the pouch, it should be pretty easy to hit that button without crashing your vehicle.
Im going to mess with my exchange server 2003 and mobile active sync. My goal is to sync wirelessly on the road my contacts and task list along with any other items. I knw i can accomplish it.
Wireless activesync works perfectly for me with Exchange 2003. I was using it on the Samsung i600 and it also works just fine on the PPC 6601. Not setup issues.
How should you handle it if you had spam filtering in the client not the exchange server? Maybe have the desktop client forward (every single?) email to the pdaPhone's email address?

I am having some issues with syncing with Exchange, worked once then stopped. Server is up and in great shape...
