Got EVDO Working on my PPC-6600

I just picked up a PPC6600, and I upgraded to the beta ROM that Ehud posted from 2005 and now I'm getting EVDO speeds!!! Before the update I was getting between 130-140kbps. Now it averages from 480k to 599k. Fastest so far was 732kbps (dslreports.com)

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this? Same results? We also have a treo700wx and the 6600 actually has faster results on the speed-tests (not sure why).

I'd like to customize the phone a bit and see what's out there. Main thing I'm going to add is the SDIO wifi card. I was hoping for a way to run the java applet for Gmail but it doesn't seem to work, even with SaifuJVM.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

how did you stop it from trying to dialup?

I did the same thing, installing the ev-do update from ehud. I get the EV-DO icon. But as soon as i try to access the internet, it tries to dialup (usually successfully) and then has the standard (i.e. slow) internet access.

Did you do anything special?

Hey, if you pull this off we will all be amused. I am visiting this site to look for an old hack. Gave my 6600 away....

Where can I find this ROM? I'll give it a shot to confirm. (I'm not in a test market)

Hi, can you please write a brief guide on how you did it. Also what area are you in? I have both files from ehud but dont know what to do with them.

If you have Verizon Wireless you can go to http://www.verizonwireless.com/dst under the latest device update for the XV6600

If you do it in vista you might be disconnected and be stuck on bootloader mode so be careful. If you do there's another thread that deals with this.

Just follow the instructions in the word file and you should be fine. Good luck.

Did this work? I used to have a 6600 and that's what was missing, EVDO.

You have to be in one of the test markets to use EVDO, otherwise you'll have RX1. The 6600 always had EVDO. The gentleman that said all of a sudden he had EVDO may just have had his area added to these markets.

so if I still had the 6600 (and I'm in an EVDO area) it would use the EVDO?

Just a thought....

If you were to use this ROM now, and update your PRL, would it work now -or better- then before?

I doubt it. Unless they have a EVDO rev A update... I don't think we'll get faster speeds. I'm pretty sure they will not be doing any updates.
