More Firm Specs on the MDA II

Infosync is reporting more hard information about the follow-on to the pdaPhone that was the first Pocket PC Phone Edition success story. HTC, a manufacturer for many different devices that have slightly different skins, is moving along with T-Mobile International for the new MDA II. The MDA II will be the follow-on to T-Mobile's MDA being sold in Europe today. The MDA is nearly identical to the mmO2 XDA, AT&T Siemens SX56, T-Mobile US Pocket PC Phone Edition, and Qtek 1010, and so its a safe assumption that each of them will have a follow-on similar to the MDA II. Information has been slowly coming out about the XDA II which confirms this theory.

Infosync is reporting that the MDA II will have the following features:
  • Integrated VGA Camera
  • MMS - native
  • Tri-Band 900, 1800, 1900 Mhz
  • GSM/GPRS
  • Windows Mobile 2003
  • New 16 bit display
  • 400Mhz xScale CPU
  • 128MB of RAM
  • Bluetooth - native
  • SD/IO
  • No antenna stub

They are apparantly also preparing an optional GPS navigation kit to make available with it. The MDA II is slated for an October 2003 Release. All I can say is WOW! This thing is going to be awesome.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

The REALLY BIG question is: "Have they improved the phone reception?" That is my number one gripe. These phones work fine as integrated PDAs but are let down by the lousy phone reception and operation. I have tired everyone of the phones on the market. The P800, the SX-56, the i700 and the Kyocera 7135 to name just a few. Of the bunch, the Kyocera and the i700 had the best phone reception but neither compares to even cheap handsets available form the same vendors. It's time they paid more attention to making these devices great phones too.

Just my humble opion.

John

It sounds like you live in an area that doesn't have great reception. My sx56 is fine where I live and work. I know that is is spotty in certain parts of the city. So it all depends on your local calling area and building that you are in.
