GoToMyPC PocketView Brings Remote Access to Pocket PC

<img src="images/logo-gotomypc.gif" align="right">Expertcity, Inc. today announced the launch of GoToMyPC PocketView, a real-time remote-access solution that enables users of wireless devices to view and control the full desktop of their PCs in real time.

"GoToMyPC PocketView creates the ultimate productivity tool for mobile professionals by giving them fast, easy and extremely secure access to all of the data and applications on their desktops from handheld devices," says Klaus Schauser, founder and CTO of Expertcity, Inc. "With GoToMyPC PocketView, mobile professionals will finally have access to all of their software and network connections, including all of their proprietary corporate applications wherever they are, instead of just email, calendar and a few "Webified" programs, resulting in greater efficiency and productivity."

GoToMyPC PocketView is a true real-time "window" into the user's PC desktop. Designed with ease of use in mind, its real-time screen-sharing interface provides users with the most intuitive remote-desktop usage experience. Features include scaling, image rotation for better viewing options, and one-click scrolling to enable faster movement around the desktop. GoToMyPC PocketView does not require synchronization or data conversion, thereby ensuring immediate and easy adoption.

"We believe our solution will be a powerful application for driving broader acceptance of mobile devices in the enterprise," says Andre Angel, senior vice president of enterprise solutions, Expertcity, Inc. "Carriers will now have a value-added solution that bridges the gap between content and infrastructure requirements, allowing them to overcome the limited functionality of most mobile devices today."

GoToMyPC PocketView will be extremely easy for businesses to deploy and will result in significant cost savings on mobile devices since it doesn't require any adjustments for interacting with corporate applications. It is also very secure. According to Schauser: "The 128-bit end-to-end encryption enhances the level of security in open networks, resulting in a truly secure solution."

GoToMyPC PocketView will be launched with GoToMyPC 4.0 Corporate and Personal versions in early June. Initially, GoToMyPC PocketView will be compatible with most mobile devices running Windows CE.4.x or Pocket PC 2003.

This is very interesting news, especially as it implies a new release of the Pocket PC OS before June! What concerns me is potential compatibility with PPC Phone Edition OS, however. AFAIK, a new release of PPCPE isn't due until late this year (forget where I heard this...), so I wonder if this means that only PPC users with the newest OS and an online connection can use this and PPCPE users will be out in the cold?

Here's the answer

"The current version of the T-Mobile phone runs 2002 (not compatible), but if T-Mobile offers an OS upgrade to 2003, we would run on that. I am not familiar with the Siemens device, but the same logic applies. I believe the Samsung will have Pocket PC 2003 Phone Edition when it is released, but all I know are rumors at this point."

Interesting "rumor" on the Samsung i700. Anyone else know any rumors about PPCPE 2003 availability?

There are Pocket PC 2002 (Phone Edition), Windows CE .NET and Windows CE 4.x.
Pocket PC will be for the portrait oriented 240x320 devices, .NET is meant as a general Windows CE derivates replacement (for example for embedded solutions in mobile phones - not smartphones but proprietary device types like Neonode N1) and CE 4.x is for HPC (Handheld PC) devices with landscape orientation with desktop-like look.

Very cool. We use GoToMyPC exclusively for remote server management. It would be great to be able to access it on the Theras.
