There are a lot of exciting products lining up for the Pocket PC Phone market in the next 3 months. We've been hearing a lot about the follow-on to the popular mmO2 XDA, the XDA II (and all it's different varieties around the world). Along the same lines, will be a CDMA version to provide a path for Thera users. And Samsung has also been makind some announcements in Asia about updated versions of the i700. What we need is a new company to dive into the pool... enter LG.
LG introduced an innovative new entry in the Pocket PC Phone market at ITU Telecom World 2003 in Geneva. Dubbed the LG-SC8000 / LG-KC8000, its most unique feature is a sliding numeric phone pad... Tungsten style. How cool it would have been for this to be a sliding QWERTY keyboard! But, they didn't stop with the keyboard. THis powerhouse also packs a 400Mhz XScale CPU, 192MB of memory (128MB dedicated to multimedia), and a 1.1 megapixel CCD-type digital camera. The camera is capable of 1 hour of video recording.
While we don't have any actual dimensions, the screen size of 2.8 inches means that this will be one of the smaller Pocket PC Phones that we've seen thus far. The SC8000 has all the usual connectivity options... IrDA, and USB. It also has an SD memory card slot, but no word on whether it supports SD/IO. It is slated to be released in the Korean market later this year. Will we ever see this in the US? I doubt it, but we can dream!
