Over the years, one thing that has really frustrated me is the instability of Microsoft's ActiveSync. This is the software that is used to synchronize mobile devices ( like pdaPhones based on Micorsoft's Pocket PC Phone Edition (no Windows Mobile Phone Edition) and Smartphone platforms) with your desktop computer. I have found that you need to reboot from time to time to get a connection to occur, which is not very productive. Early reports are that this new release of ActiveSync, version 3.7.1, is much improved in this area. That is good news for sure. Here is a list of enhancements from Microsoft's announcement.
- Enhances USB driver to improve connection stability and avoid crashes
- Improves detection of cradled devices
- Addresses issue with ActiveSync falling into guest mode repeatedly
- Addresses issue where desktop fails to detect cradled device
- Addresses issue where device and desktop report different connection states and sync does not start
- Improves the reliability of large file transfers
- Enhances Desktop Connection Wizard UI to make connection setup easier
- Improves stability to reduce application level crashes
