My biggest beef with Verizon has nothing to do with their wireless service, but rather what they have done and continue to do to the independent DSL providers. Through various forms of obstructionism, political/regulatory manuevering, and other typical monopolistic unfair practices, they have almost totally destroyed a once thriving and potentially important option for broadband Internet services. In particular, they have destroyed Northpoint, Rhythm and very nearly Covad (and probably others).
I had firsthand experience with their predatory and unfair practices when trying to set up several DSL lines with Northpoint, Covad and XO. Since Verizon owns the wiring, they can and do drag their feet and bungle jobs for their competitors so much that a customer has no choice but to find alternatives to using independent DSL providers.
And Verizon has now wangled an FCC ruling that may completely alleviate the need for Verizon to even pretend that they are giving fair and equal access to these independents.
Verizon vs Sprint-In NorthWest Verizon has better coverage.
Here in the Puget Sound Area, Verizon has the northwest. I have been a customer for 8 years, actually my (now-Ex) was the customer, I refused to carry a cell phone until there was a phone that did it all. Phone, Organizer and pager all in one. That as you all know was the 6035 and I was one of the first to own one in the Northwest.
Verizon has better coverage in my area but costs more than sprint. The only inconsistancy is that many of my plan "Features" that I have assigned to my account get dropped on a regular basis. Voicemail, caller ID, insurance...
I also hate it when you try to change your plan they say ok, your new year of mandatory service start now. I say, "No, it doesn't!!!" and argue with them until they say I don't have to have the year mandatory service. I have no intention of changing plans. I just can't stand the year mandatory requirement for simply changing my plan a little, usually to more minutes at a higher rate...
i hear ya, ebverytime you change plans with sprint, you "sign" another contract. you could pay 10 bucks additional/month to stay off a contract but i dont plane on leaving sprint...

Me either! Me and my trusty Treo are going to wait it out as long as it takes for the 7135 on Sprint :drink1

OK, I have to say that in most ways, I enjoy Sprint more than Verizon. I, myself am on Verizon, but most of my friends have Sprint and I enjoy what they can do. The biggest turn off for me is Verizon`s texting plan. They call it "unlimited" and it`s NOT. How can they call it that when it`s only to other Verizon customers? That makes no sense? Am i right or am I right? Don`t Sprint people have the freedom to text who they want for no charge if they pay the 5 bucks for unlimited texting? Also, why does Verizon charge you for recieved messages (outside of verizon)??? We`re not always expecting a message from someone, yet we still have to pay 10 cents for it. So, that`s 20 cents for "hey, you comin` tonight?" "Yes." How stupid? Ok, I`m done.
