Yup, I'm reading reports of a 32GB iPhone with a 5 megapixel camera and a magnetic compass. I'm expecting an announcement from Apple at the WWDC the first week in June.

I saw this and thought...dang, and I just bought a new iPhone... But, I don't really need 32GB, 5MP camera, and a magnetic compass. I just want the 3.0 OS, so I think I'll be fine.... Other thoughts on that? /sorry to go OT, but it is the lounge... /

Beging the gadget hound that I am, there's a high likelihood I'll try to snag the new iPhone when it comes out if it truly has 32GB and a 5 megapixel camera. However, it all depends on the price AT&T charges. I have a ton of movies, TV shows, and music--way too much to fit on my 16GB iPod. I couldn't even fit all my music on a 32GB iPod so I'll have to give some hard consideration to whether it is worth me going to 32GB. The 5 megapixel camera definitely would be nice as I don't carry around a subcompact camera with me (though my wife usually carries one in her purse). I don't get the compass thing at all and have no use for it.
I think you need to decide for yourself whether you need any of the new hardware. The one thing we know for certain is that 3.0 firmware will be available for the 3G iPhone, probably for free (and, if not for free, probably for a minimal fee of something like $10).

I will definitely move to the new iPhone, especially with 32gb. However, I have never understood anyone's need to load everything they own in the way of media onto their iPhone. Why? Unless you are planning on taking your iPhone into the wilderness for a few weeks, and can bring a power supply with you, then why not just create an iPhone playlist in iTunes, and put in that anything you want. I just delete from and add to my iPhone playlist anytime - all I need in there is what I want until the next time I dock and sync with iTunes. Pretty simple, really.
That being said, 32 gb will be nice for the added space, for larger or more apps, and larger movies, etc. But, as I have always said - there is no such thing as too much memory. And apps will always be written to take advantage of added technology - including more memory - that comes on the scene. So, even if I don't think I need 32 gig today (and I don't) I just may want it in a month or so!

I have such a large music collection and such ecletic tastes that I never know what I'm going to want to listen to or watch at any particular time. That's why I love my 160GB iPod--I can fit all of my music and a lot of videos on it. Speaking of videos, with the iPhone's awesome screen, having 32GB will allow more room for movies and TV shows!

This is it, my 3,000th post. Seems like it's taken me a long time to get here. OTOH, thanks to the iPhone 3.0 firmware and the iPhone 3GS being released this week, I probably have made 75-100 posts just in the last 48-72 hours.
Look out, MRailing; here I come.

At his current posting rate....(where is he?), you'll pass him (while passing me on the way) in no-time!
I haven't talked to Michael in awhile. I think he's busy riding his motorcycle and enjoying some new company.

3000...whoa...congrats who'da thunk getting an iPhone would have made you so verbose!
Mark
Ironically, due to its stability and common-sense GUI, I think there is less to talk about with the iPhone. The iPhone forum is much slower than the WM forums--until Apple announces a new firmware release or new device. My guess is that if I had stayed with my i760, I'd already be at 3,500.
So, Mark, when are you going to convert? You're one of the few remaining "oldies" who haven't switched.
