We did our annual Christmas Card family photo, so I thought I'd post it up here and try to get a thread going to see the families. Here is my family, including the dogs. If you have a holiday family photo, please post it.
Nikon D2H w/ Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR and TC 1.4EII which all adds up to a 150-420mm f/4 lens on a body that can do 8 frames a second... kind of like an Uzi!
Yes Robert... it is big and heavy... the setup you see is 15" long and 6 lbs 4 ozs. If someone doesn't like my pictures, I can always bludgeon them to death with it...
I like to follow my kids' sports in pictures, and I had an opportunity to pick up a D2H at a good price, so that is my Christmas present for this year. I've become the psuedo school sports photographer. Its a lot of fun. But, just like a nice new pan and stove doesn't make a great cook... a cool camera doesn't make a great photographer.
A Very merry Christmas to all here and a very Prosperous New Year. May all your wishes come true and most of all stay converged warm during the holidays !!!!!

I got some shirts and a few sweaters. My wife and I didn't exchange gifts because we need to buy a new car and that will be painful.
We had leased 3 of the same model van in a row, and they had been each flawless. A couple of years ago, we finally decided to buy one, thinking we'd have it paid off when the kids start college. Well the thing has turned out to be a lemon of sorts. First it seems to attract minor bumps and dings.. including being backed into by a dump truck. But at 50K miles, it's burning about a quart of oil every few weeks (used over 2 quarts on our holiday trip of about 1000 miles), and it looks to be leaking coolant from the gasket between the intake and the heads. It also has a bad wiper motor on the back ($250 part) and has a chronic problem with the brakes. We need to get rid of this thing and I could never sell it outright to someone, so it will get traded this week for something. I just checked and we owe what the trade-in book value is, so we are going to be taking on a big payment to buy something new.
My wife wants to get out of the mini-van space and the only thing with 6+ passenger seating is an SUV. Amazing that SUVs are going for quite a bit more than mini-vans. We're looking at probably $32-35K for something that seats 7. I am hoping we can find a good end of year deal.
I hate to bash the "bad one", because we had 3 of them that were great. It was a Pontiac Montana. We are looking at a couple of different things. Actually looked at a Honda Odyssey yesterday and liked it a lot, but the dealer was an incredible jerk. The salesman was pretty nice... a little arrogant, but not too bad.. but his boss left me nearly speechless with some of the insulting arrogant stuff that came out of his mouth. IF I were to buy one of them, it wouldn't be from him. I intend to drive a half hour to another Honda dealer today and see what they would do. We are also looking at the new Chevy Uplander which just came out.

Well, we decided on the Honda Odyssey. I went to another dealer last week and he gave us a great deal... bluebook for my trade, and $2500 off sticker... with nothing extra added. All of this and they only had two on the lot and had to get ours in a dealer trade. Unfortunately we haven't been able to pick it up yet because of a few delays, but hopefully today or tomorrow we'll have our new ride. The part of this that brings tears to my eyes. (and the thing that sealed the deal over the other vehicles we looked at).. our 2002 Montana with 50K miles has a bluebook of $9500.... a 2002 Odyssey with 50K miles and same equipment has a bluebook of $14500!!! On top of that, the sticker on the Odyssey was less than the Montana to start with. The 2005 Odyssey we are buying actually has a sticker that is less than the 2002 Montana, and more equipment. I hope this will be the last minivan we ever buy. I got the extended warranty to take it out to 100K, so we will keep it at least that long. My wife was a Honda girl when I met her, and I took her to GM land for years. She's quite happy to be getting back into a Honda. I'll post some pics after we pick it up.
