In newbie terms, what they are for, how to generally use them, and where to find them, and if i am going to use the 7135 how necessary a memory card is. thank you.
Memory cards are for you to store data on. This can include mp3s, software applications, etc. One of the main reasons people value the memory card slot on the 7135 so much is that it allows you to save valuable data onto a memory card such that if you had to hard reset your 7135 and therefore lose all your data and not have your laptop around, you could potentially restore the device and all your data from the memory card. There are many other uses for the memory card slot on the 7135, what I've listed is just the tip of the iceberg.
How good are the samsung chip based SD cards? I'm currently bidding on a 128MB Dane-Elec Samsnung 128mb card on ebay, and my bid of 99 cents is still standing
Wondering why if such a good price for a NEW and never used 128 card can be so low, even on ebay

Excuse me, not all smartphone users are naive even if some drive BMWs. Dude, you are advertising on a board where folks are eager to buy the same new product. Do you want someone to out bid your low bid; or are you really the seller?
Please, don't take this as a flame or accusation. It is a subject that concerns me, especially with a lot of new users of expensive (gold) small items that are easily stolen and re-sold.
To backtrack for a moment, and give you a plausible explanation...and not sure I even want to advertise this. Yes, sometimes a card does not work in a particular brand, yet it works on others products. The manufactures' are very, very, very quick to exchange it for one that works. What % of cards have actual manufacturing defects? No brand wants to be labled as having a high % of defects when used on a competetors products.
Theft, with the excuse of 'no receipt, no return', can seriously over blow the percentage of defects into a huge myth.
The new Wi-Fi Smart Media cards are even more of an advertising to theft because a radio aerial sticks out, and those cards are expensive. Plus, I usually carry six cards all the time. How can you tell if a card has never been used?
At some point, I believe the consumers are going to have to make the establishment do something. And it can be done with encryption on the card and a reporting system. Especially, with the cards that connect to a network. Or if you are an honest person, consider starting a product tracking business.
On a side note, digital photography has severely reduced the value of silver, since the major use of silver is in film. Now, these cards are increasing the vaule of gold.LOL

Steve, this is also not meant to be a flame. I understand your concern, but, please relax. First off, I don't think Xc0m was advertising. It looked to me more like he was asking for advice on a product he was thinking of buying. Happens here all the time, both asking advice, and sharing news about good deals. And yes, it runs the risk that a reader will bid up/buy the last one, but really, there's always more stuff. (Besides, everyone checks E-Bay-- Even if someone were the seller, it's not like a post in the General Discussion on this board sees that much traffic that wouldn't be checking E-Bay already. )
Second, I totally agree that it's always possible that an item on E-Bay is stolen, and this is something the responsible buyer always has to aware of and on guard against. This could very well be the cause. There are also other good reasons to start bidding at a low price. Many people who do regular transactions on E-Bay believe firmly in starting the bidding on all items, even large ones, at $1. Psychologically, it just seems to work better to let bidders bid up the price themselves, rather than have the seller set it high.
Having said all that, Xc0m, I have heard good things about Lexars, and own a couple SanDisks, but do not know anything either way about Samsung SD cards. Since a couple days have gone by.... Did you win it?
WHen you store all of these files and applications on your SD card how do you organize them? I noticed that when I first loaded the card in my 7135 that it added the folder PALM with LAUNCHER as a subfolder. Also when I downloaded MP3s, a folder called AUDIO was added. Why these folder names and what are there purpose? I am very organized with my filing system and have to have lots of folders and subfolders for everything. I found that when I started moving files around within the card things stop working. Example: In the default AUDIO folder for MP3 downloads, I added folders for Genre and Artists and moved the files to their appropriate new folders. I then tried to listen to them using the built-in MP3 player on the 7135 and it couldn't find my now moved files. Another example: I Moved several small applications (like Directory Asst, Minute Counter, Big Clock) that I had initially installed on the Handheld to the SC card. Again, I created a folder called APPLICATIONS and subfolders with the names of the application in them. I then went to the Desktop on my palm to see if the application would run in I tapped on it. The icon was no longer there. Did I do something wrong? I also tried catagorizing my downloaded photos in various folders and subfolders all under a main folder called PHOTOS. I then couldn't get PhotoSuite to find them. I'm confused. Any help or re-direction to another post would be helpful. I tried to do a search, but I have had nothing but trouble with that search feature. I try typing in "SD card" without the quotes and it tells me that I my search word SD was not three words long. I then try "SD card FAQ" and the same thing comes up.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and help.
Helpless, :help

Your quest for order is commendable. However, you cannot rename folders & move files around & still have Palm programs find them. You'll need to put things back & read more about the VFS support of specific programs. For example, Palmreader can find files in other directories. JFile stores & can only find its files in the /palm/programs/jfile directory. Some programs can find the files if you define the paths in Preferences.
You get the hang of it but you'll need to accept the fact that you'll not be able to fully control file placement on cards.
Just did a search on 'VFS' ( three letters...not words).
Under the thread 'Backup Buddy and Backup Buddy Vfs' is most valuable information. This board is so cool.
Great subject Chris and Beryl. Memory storage cards and Palm applications will be with us from one generation of handhelds to the next; becoming more important, valuable, and personal year after year.
