Changing from SPRINT to T-MOBILE, What will replace my I500?
I have only had my I500 for a month now, and I have fallen in love with it...I used to carry a seperate palm, and cell phone, and wanted an all in one.
Here's the catch, our company is switching to T-Mobile because we get better reception in our building with them...we get no Sprint reception at all.
I use the palm to sync with Outlook, and use the calandar & contacts function the most. I don't use the e-mail or the text messaging hardly at all.
Size is most important to me. I want a small phone that I can carry anywhere.
Here are the options from what I see...
Blackberry 7100T
Treo 600
Pocket PC 2003 Phone
Ipaq h6315
What will be the closest in size, and best phone. I use the Phone #1, and a Palm #2.
I would imagine a Treo 600 would be the best solution for you - it's the smallest and is the only Palm OS phone they carry. You can get any unlocked GSM PDAphone you want and use it on T-Mobile, though. The i500 is Sprint CDMA technology and T-Mobile uses GSM/GPRS technology with a SIM card in the device.
Yeah, from looking at them today, the Treo looks like the closest to the i500, but a bit bigger than the Blackberry 7100T. I think there is also an extra charge for the BB, but not the Treo.
I have used Tmobile service since before it was Tmobile, when it was called voicestream. I would not change. my service is reliable everywhere i have ever been. (for the exception of a few buildings) there mobile internet service is by far the most affordable using GPRS. I have had a few smartphones as they call them. I just finished researching the newest phone i just purchased. i suggest you take a look at motorola A780, if you want a clamshell. Samsung models are not available for GSM with handwriting recognition. The Treo 650 is better then the 600 you listed and is now available.
I just purchased Eten M500 which is a microsoft mobile device. You might be interested in checking out gsmarena.com to get an idea.

Wonder why they don't offer the Treo 650?
T-Mobile doesn't charge more for BB exactly. There are a lot of different plans and it depends on what you want to do. You pay for data, and so the Blackberry is no different in that regard. If you email is limited to POP3, then they have a pretty decent setup to handle this. Otherwise, your company has to support Blackberry in order to get at your corporate email.
Unfortunately, Samsung has dropped the ball in the i5xx space. They've had newer models for CDMA and GSM out in prototype mode for over a year and haven't produced anything from it... don't know what's going on there. The other flip phone maker was Kyocera, and they've let the 7135 get very long in the tooth with no follow-on. Odd that the makers don't see the obvious value of the i500 space.
I agree that the Treo 600 is probably your best bet for the short term.
