The first obstacle (yes, I consider it an obstacle) is that I need to stick with Verizon. I'm determined to replace my 7135 within the next 6 months. I'm thinking a likely replacement will be the Treo 650 once Verizon starts offering it, but I am seriously considering switching to a PPC device. I like the larger displays and the improved multitasking (as compared to the Palm OS) is appealing to me. One new phone on the market that I find appealing is the HP 6315. I like that it has Bluetooth support and WiFi. It has a thumbpad which I like (although it isn't built-in). Trouble is, it appears to be GSM only. Maybe the Audiovox XV6600 will be my next phone. It's going to be nice from eveything I've read, except it's missing built-in WiFi.
So am interested in everyone's advice. What would you do if you were in my shoes? What great new PPC devices are likely to be offered through Verizon in the next 6 months?
I think you should get a SonyEricsson phone and a separate PDA
Seriously you have a couple big changes there. A new phone in general, Palm to PPC, the phone format. I wouldn't worry about which phone until you are sure about the decision to change OS and formats.
I personally want wi-fi and bt, so that rules out some phones, including the 650. The 650 would be alot less of a change, especially if you are happy with the 7135.
I like all the "Windowesque" features of PPC, but I finally gave up on the large format. It just didn't work for me when I only needed a phone. So short of getting two devices...I vote the 650.
I would think the XV6600 with an SD WiFi adapter would work perfectly for you. It is a different world, though. (Palm to PPC, clamshell to slider, etc.) But it does work on VzW (and Sprint is also carrying it.)

Dave, I am in your shoes. I'm evaluating the Treo 650 (whenever my demo arrives) and the Audiovox PPC-6601. If the Treo is worthit, it's worth the switch to Sprint. Whichever one I like best, I'm keeping.

William, you aren't exactly in my shoes because you have the added flexibility of switching to Sprint. I'm stuck with Verizon for a while longer.
I've decided that I want a Treo 650. There is a lengthy thread over at TreoCentral.com regarding the technique to get a Treo 650 activated on the Verizon network. The technique is complicated, probably voids the warranty, and I just don't want it that bad. My 7135 is still working and so I'm going to wait a little longer and hope that Verizon goes ahead and releases the damned thing...
Yep, that's probably advisable. You could also find that you like the new Sammy too... With the current speeds of data, I've found that I don't want WiFi that much.
Another thing to consider. For the extra cost per month of a data plan with Verizon, over what it would cost you with Sprint or T-Mobile, you may find it not that expensive to switch carriers and pay whatever fee that hit you with. Then you get some flexibility. From your living room, I'd think most carriers would do fine.

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply.
Which Sammy are you referring to? There have been lots of rumors of new Samsung pdaPhones, but none have materialized that I'm aware of. Your "general news" post suggests that's the case as well.
Well, the i730 is definitely a possibility. If the rumored March '05 release date turns out to be accurate (unlikely), it could easily become my next pdaPhone.
I think I could make the i730 my next phone also. Mostly because with bluetooth, the candybar stays on my hip or in my bag, and the headset handles all the phone work.

You wear a headset continuously? I have never gotten used to that...
I've been reading that some of the newer ones, like the newest Jabra, have a ringer, and a small led screen. They have a simple lanyard to wear around your neck.
I think I started thinking more about this when I read about how Harley unconverged. I started moving larger screens, and bluetooth to the top of my list.
There is a program that I can at least consider to replace Act for Palm; Trans/act, which runs on PPC.
I'm still alittle concerned about switching to the a new OS.
