I've been loyal to Windows Mobile and like it, actually. However, it seems like more and more of the phones w/ WM are "skinning" them to make them better for using fingers.
Probably the number one thing I want is something I can use a finger to navigate instead of a stylus, along with a larger screen.
Yes, the Sholes is real! Unless the HD2 shows up I'll be seriously considering this phone assuming the build quality is there and VZW doesn't muck it up.

I'm on the fence with upgrading to the Droid. My i-760 is kind of dying, especially the battery and the reception. So I'll need something before the winter holidays.
The Droid specs don't really wow me. But they might be "good enough".
Here are the specs that Pop out at me:
The Processor is supposedly the TI OMAP3430, its old tech. The Palm Pre has a similar Processor, so does the i(friggin-h8U)Phone. But, Android 2.0 might run just fine on 600mhz with optimized hardware integration.
It has the (now standard) 512ram/256rom. Which again could be just fine with Android 2.0. The apps are supposed to be smaller and automagically cache to the memory card.
The 5mp camera with the dual LED flash is how a PPC camera should be.
Capacitive touch screen = hello 21st century and multi touch.
Highly specialized Android 2.0 with the "Car Home", or whatever its called, is cool. I used to have this old clamshell LG cell with an awesome car setting and amazing voice command tech. If this "Car Home" feature is anything like that old LG, I'll buy it just for that. Also, I might let the tiny amount of ram/rom slide and even a slightly slower than OmniaII Processor slide because of Android's (hopefully) totally golfed code.
QWERTY keyboard with dPad = love at first sight. I wish the dPad were on the other side though, then my NES emulation would be near perfect!!
The OS, the camera/flash, the qwerty keyboard with the dPad could really sway me. The tipping point would be if it rendered web pages really fast. Really, I'd be satisfied if the OS turns out to be as open as the teaser "iDon't" commercial hints at. Then I'd have something to keep my attention while I wait for the HTC HD2 and or some comparable device running WM7 to come to VZW. I'm really over WM6 in all its forms.
I wonder if there will be an extended battery?

I am currently torn between buying an Imagio and then totally regretting it when the Droid and Omnia2 come out.
What to do... What to do...
Wait. Patience is a virtue of the wise, or so they say.
You may want to see how the Moto Droid performs in the wild vs the Omnia2 vs whatever else VZW has up their sleeves. VZW is really up to some sneaky stuff with the Droid being a series of devices and all these new BB devices hitting in November. And then there's those wildly speculative rumors of a 1gig snapdragon powered HTC Android device coming sometime around Nov28.
I'd wait, at least till wed (10/2 when VZW does their "Droid Unveiling" in NYC. But I wouldn't wait past the new year, cause LTE is supposed to be coming in late 2010, which really means late 2011, so if you get something around the new year you should have an NE2 rebate coming just in time for LTE.
Just my usual way too much info response to simple questions.
I should really start blogging again...

Right now I really want to see the Droid. However, I love Windows Mobile because of its ability to sync w/ MS Outlook for appts, tasks, contacts, etc. Can Android phones do that?
I'm a long time Windows Mobile user and I'll be going with the Droid. I wanted to stay with Verizon and the Touch Pro2 was tempting but I'm just underwhelmed by Windows Mobile 6.5.
Maybe I'll be back in two years once WinMo7 is established--I still have high hopes.

I don't want a Blackberry, I'm pretty sure.
The droid does have Exchange support. How well it will work is still left to be seen. However, MS did just open up their .PST format so we may see "exchange support" become a default on any device that bother's to get it put together. I do not know if it will have exchange push email, or if the calendars and other stuff will sync up. Heck I have MS Office for Mac and their version of outlook doesn't support synching calendars. I think there is a way to get everything synched to a google account, but I don't have time to double check that.
VZW has a fancy site up: Droid from Verizon Wireless
If you look really closely, you can see that "exchange" is one of the features. Its really tiny though.
I wish I could just pre-order this thing and be done with it. But, since I can't, I am perfectly happy with holding on to my i760 until the hype clears after the Droid launch. Also, I refuse to wait in line to buy anything, so if there's no stock, then I can wait some more. As for WinMo, I think waiting for a device with a Snapdragon (or some other 1gig plus) Processor and a capacitive touch screen would be best for running WM6.5 or 7. As for Blackberry, I'd wait for the one with WiFi to come out on VZW (I do like that BBM, don't think it will work over WiFi though). However, IF i couldn't wait for some reason, like my i760 died and they wanted to give me some weird device (like the Razzle), I'd probably go with the Droid.

I'm sure the exchange support will evolve after its released. The PalmPre was released with exchange support but it was pretty limited at the outset and they slowly added more features with each update that allowed it to work with more exchange configurations.. I'm sure this will be the same.
And you CAN preorder it according to what I've read at www.Droiddoes.com But I haven't found a place to do that.. perhaps its not up yet.
