iPhone vs. Palm Pre - Please help me :)

I'm hoping you can help me. I started out on a regular phone ages ago. Then my huband gave me his old Palm to use to keep my appointments in hand. I never used that thing, didn't want to carry a cell & Palm. Well we got AT&T a few years back and he got us the Palm Treo 680 and I was hooked. I loved that I had my phone and calendar in one place. That broke last year and his company gave us Blackberry's. I hate this Blackberry with a passion, it's just not me. I miss the Palm software, having the calendar right there, not needing to open Outlook to do a calendar. I miss the touch screen, not too fond of the roller ball, just not me.

So our contract with AT&T ends on Sept 14th and I need to decide on a new phone. I've narrowed it down to the iPhone & Pre. I'm hoping you can help me decide.

1. What PDA and/or mobile phone do you use today? Blackberry

2. Are you locked into a mobile carrier ? AT&T until 9/14/09

3. Where are you based? Do you stay in one place or travel a lot? Do you travel internationally... how much and where? Do you intend to use your PDAPhone there? I'm a stay at home mom. Don't travel much and if I do, it's in the US.

4. Do have a preference of Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian, Smartphone OS, Blackberry, etc.? Loved my Palm but there is that iPhone.

5. Are you likely to run it the way it came out of the box, or do you intend to load a whole lot of extra applications and stuff on it? Do you know of anything now that you will need to run? If I can add apps for free then that would be a nice added bonus.

6. How important is wireless data access, and for what would you use it? (i.e. Web browsing, VPN, Remote termnial Access, Instant messaging, etc)? I'm going to have to pay for a data package with either one of these so I will use it if I have it.

7. Will you need to view Microsoft Office documents on the PDAPhone? Will you need to edit them? Maybe once in a while view them, but not everyday.

8. Will you need access to an email system? I have AOL, and again if I'm getting a free data package I'll check my email, but I've lived w/o this long so this isn't a deciding factor for me.

9. Do you do SMS messaging a lot (telephone to telephone messaging)? Yes, yes, yes! I actually went over by 160 messages this month and 140 last month

10. Do you want to use a GPS with the PDAPhone for mapping and navigation? no

11. What is your size preference.. very close to the smallest cellphone, or you don’t care.. function over size? Don't care about size, they both seem small enough.

12. How will you carry it... pocket, belt, purse, etc.? Probably in a holder either inside my pocket or on my belt.

13. Do you prefer a particular form factor… flip-phone, candy bar, etc? No pref.

14. Do you prefer a QWERTY keyboard, numeric dial-pad, or stylus? I like the QWERTY keyboard but everyone I know who doesn't have one says I'd get used to a touch keypad quickly too.

15. Do you want to play a lot of video games on the PDAPhone? What kinds - puzzles, strategy, action adventure, etc.? Again, if they are free, I'll play them but not a deciding factor.

16. Do you want to listen to music on the PDAPhone? What kind... mp3, streamed, etc.? This could be nice for when I'm at the gym.

17. Do you want a camera on the PDAPhone? Yes.

18. Do you have any other hardware you intend to use with the PDAPhone? Do you intend to use any Bluetooth devices? What types of devices? Bluetooth headset.

19. What kind of battery life do you need? I am ok with having to charge the Pre as opposed to having to send the phone away like the iPhone.

20. What are your budget limits (PDAPhones range in price from below $100 for older used models to nearly $1000 for high end models without a carrier subisidy)? I don't mind paying for either one and Radio Shack is running special right now, if you trans over your phone number form another carrier they'll give you an additional $100 off, so the Pre is $99 out the door.

I've tbeen to both the AT&T and Sprint stores and looked at both of these phones. They both seem like something I could use. I do like the QWERTY on the Pre very much. I'm not sure how many apps I'd be using at one time so running multiple apps for me is no biggie. I know like the apps on the iPhone, but more Plalm apps will be available as time goes on.

I just really don't know which way to go, so I'm hoping some of you can help me. Then there is also my dilema of which service is better, AT&T or Sprint. Of course each sales person has told me they have the best service. With AT&T now we do have good coverage (I live in Orlando FL), but IMO their customer service is getting crappy.

So anyway, any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated.
