HTC Touch Pro or Samsung Omnia

1. What PDA and/or mobile phone do you use today?
Motorola Q

My Q is pretty customized, but the less I have to do the better.

6. How important is wireless data access, and for what would you use it? (i.e. Web browsing, VPN, Remote termnial Access, Instant messaging, etc)?
Must have high speed internet. Do not need VPN access. Don't care about IM

7. Will you need to view Microsoft Office documents on the PDAPhone? Will you need to edit them?
Yes to both

8. Will you need access to an email system?
a)Is it corporate (Exchange, Groupwise,Lotus, Other?) What Version? Do you want email wirelessly or do you want to do it in the office with a sync cable/cradle? Can you get your Corporate email configured for mobile access or do you need to run a desktop redirector?

19. What kind of battery life do you need?(Always near a charger, battery life is not an issue or Need the battery to last several days) How many hours do you expect to spend talking on the phone? How many hours of data?(Web browsing, push email, VPN, IM etc)
Battery life is important but I am usually near a charger: car, desk etc

20. What are your budget limits (PDAPhones range in price from below $100 for older used models to nearly $1000 for high end models without a carrier subisidy)?
I am eligible for an upgrade and plan on staying with Verizon. I want a good phone and will pay for it but don't want to overpay if I can avoid it.

I really like the Omnia but that touch screen keyboard freaks me out. I also like the larger screen, my Q screen is so small. I like the keyboard on the Touch Pro but the phone seems to need alot of tweaking. I have tweaked phones before but . . . Is that alone worth the cost difference? Help me!

Never really posted here much before , but your thread caught my attention as I own both devices you are asking about.

Omnia is going to cost you $99 right now on a 2 year and the Touch Pro is $349 on a 2 year. That right there helps most people make up their mind If your eligle for NE2 your price will be even less , the Omnia would be FREE if you have a NE2 $100 device discount.

You can listen to MP3 on both but if its a wired headset you are using neither have a 3.5mm jack so you have to use the included dongle that give you the 3.5mm jack. Both phone dongles are cumbersome and unpleasant to use. If you are going to A2DP the music you'll be fine with either although with My Plantronics 590 I does seem to have more problems with the Omnia losing connection , dont know why???

Screen on the Omnia is noticebly larger than the TP by almost 1/2" Compare them side by side and its obvious. The Omnias auto backlight makes the screen appear much Brighter than the TP with auto backlight on. This makes it seem as if the screen on the Omnia is much more desireable. However if you turn the Auto backlight off on the TP and max the slider to the brightest setting the Touch Pro can be close to as bright as the Omnia but this will elimate any battery life you were expecting to get so I wouldnt recommend it. Even after all that the Omnias screen is only WQVGA , wich is a semi-normal resolution for WinMobile devices so its not "bad" but the Touch Pro features a VGA resolution. It is staggering the difference this makes. Resolution on the Omnia seems fine until you use them both side by side , after that the Omnias resolution always bothered me......

Battery life on the Omnia is borderline acceptable. I could usually make it through the day but have to charge very shortly after getting home. Touch pros Battery life has to be the worst I have ever had. There is no way even with light to moderate usage that you are going to make it through the day. This is a pisser in my opinion, you ALWAYS have to charge mid-day or buy an extended battery which increases the thickness of this already too thick device.

The onscreen Keyboard on the Omnia is more difficult to use that I would have liked , ultimately thats why I ended up buying the Touch Pro. Using a program like Resco Keyboard make this tolerable but it can never compare to a real keyboard if your a moderate to heavy texter or emailer and care at all about you grammar and spelling, not that mines the best

The Omnia is pretty much good to go out of the box, theres not much tweaking thats needs to be done. I will say that the widgets are "cute" but almost useless in day to day use of the phone. You will either want to use the traditional Windows Today screen or invest in a UI replacement. I recommend SPB Mobile Shell and its about $30. Try the free trial and I think you'll be impressed.

The Verizon Touch Pro on the other hand , now keep in mind this is strictly my opinion , is pretty much a 100% disappontment of of the box. It is incredible laggy and slow , buggy and difficult to use. In my opinion you will have to be prepared to flash a custom ROM on the Verizon Touch Pro or it is not worth your time or money to invest in it.

Also the Touch Pro has a nice stylus silo so it is always there if you need it but with the reall keyboard you wont need it much. Omnia on the other hand is the opposite, it has the onscreen qwerty and therefore you you will find yourself needing the stylus more often than not and the is NO silo on the Omnia to store the stylus. You'll have to tie the stylus to the phone with the cheesy little lanyard they supply.

If you have any other question feel free to shoot me a PM , but based on the date of your post I'm sure you probably already made up your mind and purchased one or the other a month ago , LOL

EDIT: WOW I really need to update my profile info.....LOL
