dead i760, replace with xv6800?

Today i broke the screen on my i760, and when i called for warranty replacement, they informed me that they didn't have any available right now. they offered to send me a XV6800 instead (Verizon has authorized them to send one as a comparable replacement).

when I got the i760, it had WM 6.0, then i updated it to 6.1, and regretted it. it became really slow.

How is the XV6800 AFTER the 6.1 update? is the battery life any better? what about the low volume?

I need something that can get quite loud... my hearing isn't the best.

Thanks

i didnt see any battery power increase with 6.1. the volume issue was solved by installing a cab file. the problem with this phone is the speaker can only go so loud and beyond its limits it distorts. some people, myself included, prefer to have that slight distortion in favor of louder volume.

in regards to 6.1 and being slow, i never saw that. the phone is faster than the i760 anyway, so you will notice an improved speed difference. the problem comes when you add a lot of apps and use up device memory. the OS needs a certain amount of RAM and if you have items running on the today screen, programs running in the background, that is what is causing your slow downs.

Yeah, originally the i760 was the better phone out of the box, but Verizon isn't offering it anymore.

It's true that every virtually every issue I ever had with the XV6800 is pretty much solved. The volume can be fixed, the newest ROM lets you use the largest MicroSD cards and gives you EVDO-A, there's even a GPS fix that allows for internal GPS.

The ONLY, very slight, complaint that I would still have with this phone is the Processor speed/graphics capabilities. But that's just the life of buying technology. There's always something faster out there.

Overall, this turned out to be a great phone for me. I originally had a Treo 700 and I had to soft reset the POS several times a day. You should give it a shot.

Get it! I was able to play with the i760 for about a week and got to compare side by side. While a great phone, the xv6800 is a better phone in my opinion. Than if you out a custom ROM its even better. The GPS is a big plus too. I say go for it.
