Own a 6700 want to upgrade to 6800 or 6900, need advice
Hi all, this forum was very ehlpful to me in the past and I expect nothing less from you folks this time, thanks in advance!
I own a XV6700 with Verizon and for the most part, I love it. It is a bit bulky and I am finding that it is starting to show some signs of slowage. Plus, it is pretty beat up (For those of you looking at buying a used XV6700 I will just tell you that for a smartphone, they are tough, I cant tell you how many times I have dropped mine with little or no damage).
I use my 6700 primarily as a phone only. 2nd to text messaging, and 3rd to surfing the web via wifi spots (I dont pay for verizon internet access on my phone, just use it when im in an airport, coffee shop, my work's network, etc.)
When I travel, I watch movies/tv shows that I pulled from DVDs at home, listen to podcasts, and music that I have stored on SD cards. I watch and listen to these via the windows mobile mdia player that came with the phone's OS.
So I was looking at the 6800 a few months back but just found the 6900 on verizon's website.
Here is what I found when looking at the details for the phone...
Mobile Email: No (What the heck does this mean" I cant hook into my work's exchange server with it?)
Music Player: No (Ill assume that this means some Verizon music player because on down the list it says that it has Windows Media player, whioch of course, can play music)
Email and Web for Smartphone Compatible: No (Okay, does this mean that Verizon ripped out Internet Explorer from Windows Media for this phone specifically?)
So those are the few questions I have regarding the 6900. I am debating between the 6900, the 6800 and the Samsung SCH-i760.
Also, it would be nice if any of these had GPS navigation built in that I could possibly hack so I didnt have to pay Verizon for, and just load my own mobile GPS software. I have a cool little bluetooth gps thing I use with my 6700 now, but it would be nice to eleminate one item on a road trip.

Mobile Email is a specifc service of VZW. It does not mean yopu can't use exchange. However, be aware the XV6900 doesn't have WiFi, so you will need a data plan.

Same answer here. Eamila nd Web for Smartphones is a specific push email offering from VZW which is less expensive then the standard data plan, but does not allow exchange push. Need the full plan for that.

Both the 6800 and 6900 have built in GPS chip, but currently VZW blocks access to them in the ROM. Some searching here can point you to hacked ROM's you can load that enable them. Alltel already enabled, and Sprint will be doing so shortly officially. No work from VZW.
Thanks friend, seems VZW is stingy with the tech that phone makers put in there. I will opt for the 6800 since it has built in wifi, though the lightness of the 6900 would have been nice.
While I have your ear, any word on the new 8 megapixl camera phone from Sony Erricson hitting the verizon network? Not having to carry my PDA phone AND my camera both on cavation would be nice.

Good luck with your 6800. I am sure you will like it. These new HTC's are SO much faster then the 6700.
I haven't followed the news on the Sony/Ericson, sorry.
