Question VZW & BT

VZW has just posted on their website how VZW supports BT and they have also listed the phones that support BT. They have clarified what their phones can do and cannot do. This might be in response to the rumblings going on about what VZW disabled in order to make money!!!. It is posted here..
What profiles does VZW support?

Which profiles does Verizon Wireless currently support?
Verizon Wireless currently supports three Bluetooth profiles:
· Headset - for connecting Bluetooth headsets

· Hands-Free - for connecting hands-free car kits

· Dial-up Networking (DUN) - to allow the handset to be used as a modem
For the Bluetooth-igorant among us, what are some other Bluetooth profiels that the VZW phones don't support?

EDIT: Never mind -- I looked at the figure and can see that Fax and LAN Access profiles aren't supported.

They mention DUN but I understood it to be between a laptop and the V710 and not the V710 and a PDA. This was one of the many reasons I left Verizon. Cingular so far hasn't outright lied to me about what a phone will and won't do.

DUN is DUN. It should work fine from a PDA, and I know of people who are doing this.

The profile that folks are upset about is the file transfer one (I believe it is called EPEX). The V710 is a picture phone, but you can't transfer pictures from the memory of the phone into your computer using bluetooth, and I don't think you can synchronize address books through bluetooth either.

The thing that has people really steamed is that Motorola built the phone with this capability, but VZW disabled it in their firmware build due to an agreement with their BREW/GIN providers.

What profile would a BT GPS receiver use. Want to make sure that the new VZ XV6600 works with Delorme BT Logger. Any way to overide (load new stack) for all BT profiles?
Thanks.

Its probably in response to the class action lawsuit being started in California against Verizon for making false claims about their phones' capabilities.

When I asked Verizon about DUN between my hx4700 and the V710 I was told by Data Support that it does NOT support it and they have no plans to support it. So I had to move on and it cost me. That is what I want Verizon to pay me back for.

As much as I hate Verizon, I have used DUN with the v710 and a 3115 ipaq. I don't know why it wouldn't work with the 4700.

OBEx is disabled and they were less than upfront about it.

Idiots.... Whenever a rep there doesn't know how to do something they pull the "not supported" line out.

Did you call in a few times before giving up? The rule with VZW is to keep calling back until you get someone who knows what they are doing or gives you the answer you like

BT GPS uses the serial BT profile.

I did call Verizon but my time is money and I no longer spend my money with Verizon. I lived through the I700 and the V710 was the final straw.

This is a dumb question, but... Can you upgrade bluetooth in a device? More specifically the I-730. Is upgrading a bluetooth device a hardware upgrade, firmware upgrade, or is it a little of both. If it is hardware, I understand that it is useless to worry about it anymore. But if it is a firmware update, surely someone can figure out a upgrade to move the I-730 from v 1.1 to v 1.2.

Bluetooth is a bit of both. I'm not sure that firmware can update the version, though.
