Yes, Google has POP3 access to Gmail now. They're rolling it out slowly over the next two weeks.
If you have Gmail, log in to your account., click 'Settings' at the top of any Gmail page, then look for 'Forwarding and POP' in the orange 'Mail Settings' box. If you have 'Forwarding' only, you're not invited yet.
No, I don't have an invite, yet. I'm just getting ready to roll when they do give me POP3 access, and looking for SSL (aka STARTTLS) compatible clients for my Palm Tungsten dub-ya.
When I have more invites, I will post them to my local Craigslist.
And, one wonders whether the 'accidental' terabyte of storage some Gmail users have discovered was an accident in the lab, or if it's a revelation of Google's next great thing (or Googlette, the company's term for new projects). Hmm.

Oooh, oooh, I have it!! This is the best thing ever! I can now officially get rid of the million other problematic emails that I have. Thanks for the update, I would never have known to look for it
And if you don't have enough Google, you can use GoogHelper, article courtesy of pocketpcthoughts.com. Convinced Google is trying to take over the world yet? Mwahaaa, mwahaaa...

Well, Palm OS 4.1 and earlier don't have SSL, so the VersaMail app won't work.
I have access to the pop server, but I haven't been able to get to it from my ppc 2003 phone as it requires a port over ride from the default pop port. Maybe that is what is causing some problems.
POP3 access to GMail requires an SSL-encryption capable Email client program. The first thing you have to do is log into your GMail account using a web browser. Go to the "Forwarding and POP" tab, and enable the type of POP3 you want to do.
SnapperMail supports SSL in its "Premier" and "Enterprise" edition levels. You need the following settings. They're SnapperMail specific so you'll have to adapt them to other programs if you need to. These also assume you are already in the process of creating a new "Account" within SnapperMail.
Server Tab:
POP3 Server = pop.gmail.com
Username = your full GMail Email address
Password = your GMail password
Outgoing SMTP Server = smtp.gmail.com
Username = your full GMail Email address
Password = your GMail password
Tap the "More" button at the bottom of the "Server" tab screen.
For POP3 settings:
Set "Use SSL" dropdown to "Always Secure (wrapped port)"
Set the port to 995 and leave the other checkboxes unchecked.
For SMTP settings, you can use either "Set" of settings below. There is no mention to the word "Set" anywhere in the SnapperMail interface. These are merely two different ways that you can configure SnapperMail to send Email using GMail's server. Simply choose the set below that you want to use, but do not mix the settings together between both sets.
SMTP SETTINGS "More..." Set #1:
Set the "Use SSL" dropdown to "Always Secure (STARTTLS)"
Use port 587
Leave the other checkboxes unchecked.
SMTP SETTINGS "More..." Set #2:
Set the "Use SSL" dropdown to "Always Secure (wrapped port)"
Use port 465
Leave the other checkboxes unchecked.
I work part time on the SnapperMail support team, and we already have quite a few users using the settings above successfully.

That did the trick!!!
My Snappermail was my first choice anyway, but it couldn't log in.
The problem was that I didn't know about the "More" button and its settings.
Once I plugged your info in, I was downloading my gmail on my Snappermail!!!
Thank you soooooooooo much SilvrDrgn!
I try to set up the the Gmail POP3 with my BCPE. It keeps coming back with "Invalid GMail username or password." What is should Gmail username be? How does that differ from the Gmail email address?
Thanks. I got it working. That's confusing when your username is your full email address and they ask you to use your username and email address at different places.

is it because I am using Eudora?
Can someone help me with the settings?
thanks in advance.

Which Eudora are you using? Does it have SSL capability? If not, then it will not work.
Originally posted by Shucks It is the Eudora 2.1.1 that came with the Kyocera 7135.
Is that verison compatable?
js
The built-in Eudora 2.1.1 app on the 7135 appears to have SSL capability. You will have to go into the account settings within that program, and adjust the config parameters on the "Security" tab in the account. Most likely you'll have to set the Security (SSL) drop-down gadget to "SSL Requried" for the POP3 server. For GMail's SMTP server, you'll probably have to select "Alternate Port" for the respective drop-down gadget. I would first try setting the Authentication drop-down to "Best Available" for both of them. Finally, I'm not sure how to set the alternate port number in Eudora 2.1.1. I looked in the help screen on the Security tab (tap the "i" in the upper-right corner), and at the bottom it says "SSL is not available in this release." Hmmmm.....that's strange?!?!

I finally got 'Forwarding and POP' to appear in my Gmail settings and after enabling it in Gmail and setting it up on my i-mate PDA2K, it works through GPRS just fine! Yeah!!!! Most excellent!!!
