Gmail! Gmail!

Yes, Google has POP3 access to Gmail now. They're rolling it out slowly over the next two weeks.

Most likely you'll have to set the Security (SSL) drop-down gadget to "SSL Requried" for the POP3 server. For GMail's SMTP server, you'll probably have to select "Alternate Port" for the respective drop-down gadget. I would first try setting the Authentication drop-down to "Best Available" for both of them. Finally, I'm not sure how to set the alternate port number in Eudora 2.1.1. I looked in the help screen on the Security tab (tap the "i" in the upper-right corner), and at the bottom it says SSL is not available in this release." Hmmmm.....that's strange?!?!

So am I SOL? If it doesn't have SSL that means that I have to get snapper. Right?

If you've tried all the options, with the help of my vague suggestions, and Eudora still doesn't work, then most likely you'll have to break down and get SnapperMail (minimum of "Premier" edition) or another client that has SSL and alternate ports capability.

SnapperMail Standard Edition does not have SSL capability. You need to have either Premier or Enterprise edition in order to access GMail.

Guys,

I do SSL email on my 6035, so I know it works. I'm not doing it to GMail, though, so I'm not sure if my settings would work. I have it set to "If Available" and to "Best Available" for authentication. This is Eudora 2.1.1.

You will know if the security works when you retrieve mail because two little lock icons appear superimposed over the envelope icon when it is retrieving. It will also tell you "securing connection" when it is doing so.

It is a little-known fact that FileZ will *beam* Eudora 2.1.1 right outta the 6035, allowing it to be used on other devices. I've run it on a Palm IIIc with a Palm Modem.

You can get SSL-equipped Eudora from Qualcomm. Just go to www.eudora.com and download it for the Palm. It's called "EIS" and all you have to do is install it. I have it on my T600, works like a champ.

EIS also comes with a web browser, but don't bother.
