Generic PDAphone: Just Add Money

This PalmSource OEM, who started by making Springboards for removable media back in 2K, has an interesting idea: Design it, and the carriers will come. And, indeeed, it looks like already one enterprising marketeer has decided to sign on the dotted line to sell this Shake and Bake PalmPhone.

With the carrier-centricity of the modern market, and with only the unlocked GSM/GPRS PDAphones to counter it, this designing manufacturer has outlined the specs for a PalmPhone, and is offering to any seller the rights to configure it and put the seller's label on one or more configurations.

Would you buy a no-name phone with only your carrier's label on it?

Hmm

No-Name phone with only your carrier's label? The T-Mobile Sidekick comes to mind... "Danger" is hardly known as a phone manufacturer.

Not gonna rush out to buy this one, but yes, I would buy a phone with only the carrier's name.

What happens now when there are problems? The carrier says it's the mfg, the mfg says to contact the carrier, then they both say it's an app I've installed.

I wouldn't mind have one source to go to with issues.

Had anyone honestly heard of Nokia for any electronics before cell phones? Most of the average people don't know who made their phone, and when asked respond with the carrier name.

I don't know about a no-name manufacturer, but at least they're starting to get it right: a PDA phone with the speaker and microphone made for the human body, namely a flip cover phone. It also protects the screen. This looks like the Motorola A760 in basic design. I want a phone like this that is CDMA, Microsoft Mobile software, and has Bluetooth and WiFi. I really can't understand why a PDA phone with flip cover hasn't made it. HP tried, but it didn't catch on. You can dump the camera; more and more places don't allow them in their buildings.
