Windows live messenger Beta for pocket pc now available!

Guys, check this out... Microsoft just released the new version of windows live messenger for... pocket pc!!! (it was only supported for smartphones)

Let me summarize this app simply rocks... It even revamps part of the WM5 operating system... The contacts for example... It merges your MSN contacts in your regular "contacts",shows if THEY ARE ONLINE and even shows their current picture/icon!!!! All this on the "contacts" screen...

You can send pictures DIRECTLY not uploading them to some crappy low-privacy server and giving them a link... File send is direct..

You can also send voice messages on the fly too, they play directly too no need to click on links!

This client simply puts agile messenger TO SHAME!

Bye bye agile !

Only bad news though is that you need to be approved for the beta at http://www.microsoft.com/connect .

Ill take some screenshots and upload them later on with a full review soon.

What is the name of the beta? I am trying to find it on the "Connect" page, but I'm not sure what I need to sign up for.

Would be really awesome but i dont use hotmail.. So we'll see when i get a random email or something.

Does anyone know how this affects Poutlook? i.e. will it mess with my Exchange settings?

This has been around for a coupla months...here's a review.

http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3155

Seems interesting...but with Agile, Map4PDA, and one of a zillion RSS readers, I dont think I'm too excited about this.

I'm skeptical about the PUSH email part...I haven't heard anything about that. Specifically I heard that MS views PUSH as something for businesses and it seems odd they'd undercut their need to sell Exchange when companies could just "cheat" and use Hotmail.

It probably just polls often which is close enough for most people...

but hey, I'm up for being pleasently surprised so if you find it does PUSH let us know.

I think this post was started based on the article mentioned above. Hence, there is nothing out yet.

read the title of the thread, its been available for months yes, but for smartphones NOT pocket pc! the newst refresh ADDS support for pocket pcs... the app is great, I will take a lot of screenies and upload them this afternoon.

malatesta, I'm skeptical too, as I haven't experienced it myself but just remember that msn messenger (the desktop version of course) had push email for a long time . you would get a a little notification msn window as soon as you get new mail... so maybe it just invoving some code porting... as the protocol already supports it.

if you can't find 'mobile 10.7' then most likely they are not accepting invitations anymore....

I've got it up and running. It DOES work with the 6700, and quite well actually. It integrates contacts very nicely. Just make sure if you use hotmail/msn that all of your contacts are organized nicely in your hotmail account. I found myself doing a lot of organizing of my contacts after I installed the program. It actually downloads your MSN contacts right into your contacts on your phone.

You can view screenshots of the program here: http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3155

If you guys have any questions, let me know. This program works great for me because I use MSN for pretty much everything. If you don't, I guess you won't be too excited. But I've always liked how well the email and messenger aspects integrate.

Another quick cool thing...

If you go to your contacts on your phone, you will actually see a buddy icon next to your contacts that you have configured to use MSN. It will let you know if they're online or whatever. It will also have a link to their "Space" where you can browse their pictures and things...

Send a message via ICQ to Blade2032 Send a message via AIM to Blade2032 Send a message via MSN to Blade2032 Send a message via Yahoo to Blade2032

Just for the people who don't use MSN for chat... you can also connect to and chat with people on Yahoo Messenger now too through MSN, and vice versa.
