Well I guess it wasn't beyond me because I set it up myself I went and brought a Modem and a wireless router and hooked up the internet through my comcast cable company, Just because I am 60 doesn't mean I am dead or stupied. Thank you very much. why is it every time I ask a question somebody feels the need to put in a cutting remark.
Lynn
I'd like to be the first to apologize, I didn't mean to imply that you weren't bright. I'm 62 myself, and that alone doesn't make me stupid; just a little more forgetful and perhaps somewhat less tactful than I once was. Have you noticed that we geezers tend to get a little crotchety as we mature
I am an IT professional, and I would find it challenging at best to set up the SlingBox with only the wireless card in a laptop as the internet connection. You have wisely chosen to go a different rout, the one that SlingMedia suggests. Good Slinging to you.

Lynhamm -- God bless you!! 60 -- way cool!! And congrats on the slingbox -- when I obtain one I'll come to you for mentoring. You go guy!! (or girl, ??)
Wodin -- well, now, God bless you to!! 62, and living in Hawaii -- does it get any better?
There was a time when equus and I considered ourselves the "elders" (wer'e both 55) among the kiddies that hang out here.
Maybe we should ask convergent if we can set up our own forum -- We can all get tee-shirts that say, "Never too old to be a true geek!!"
Lynnham, how do you like the slingbox?

Well, I went down to Best Buy and found an open box for $229.99 and my techniholic addiction kicked in. I bought da buggah and a wireless game adaptor for the network side.
I've had a little trouble getting the local player to consistantly see the SlingBox, but I reserved the IP on the router and forwarded the IO port. So far so good. If that proves to be the solution I'll try getting a remote connection.
The PPC player is in private beta (I wasn't selected ), but I'll try tethering my laptop to my phone. That should be interesting since at 1x the bandwidth required to render the larger picture that the laptop is capable of will probably make for a horrible picture. We'll see.

I came, but they didn't call. Actually I used my activity here as a selling point. Didn't work though.
I wonder if it was because of my 1x bandwidth.

Must be, they want to test the broadband connection I guess.. Damn..I wish someone can leak the beta to us.. I really want to watch tv on my ppc.. Help!!!!!!
Me too! i have used my phone to laptop tethered via bluetooth. had to reduce quality but worked great. used evdo. I love my slingbox. not much of a tv watcher but now i bumped up my cable all the way because we can watch it at the tattoo shop. clients love it.
Seems like they didn't pick anyone from this board as beta tester.. probably they are affraid the betas might leak out. oh wel.. they are still shooting for Q1 release.. let's see if they can deliver that promise.
I agree with Mark. This thread was started in the i730 forum, and the only real responses of substance were from i730 users. I (and probably others) don't want to start to have to search other forums to find about the experience i730 users are having with products that can be applied to other phones, (or pda's, for that matter.) I always thought that the "modding" at pdaPhone home was diligent, and resonable. But, since last summer its gone over the edge. Please move this thread back to the i730 forum.
