I'm can't take it anymore! (Yeah, I bought a Treo)
Folks,
The triple-whammy of Sprint releasing all-you-can-eat-data for $10, the general concensus that Sprint will not have the phone until Q1'03, and news of the field testing failure of the 7135 for Verizon was too much for this frenetic smartphone freak. After angrily smashing my laptop on the floor and crushing each of the keys with my loafers(after I read the Verizon test failure post), I grabbed my checkbook and drove to my local circuit city and bought a Treo 300.
I respect those of you who are not as weak as I am, who can continue to hold out hope for a better world. I will likely continue to monitor this forum once a week or so (instead of hitting the refresh button every 15 seconds like I had been doing lately). When the 7135 is finally here for Sprint, I will probablly ebay this Treo and get one.
As for my impressions of the Treo...having owned most of the palm devices out there and then the Kyocera 6035 and the Samsung i300, the Treo with its keyboard and flimsy-flip, is taking some getting used to. One thing I didn't realize was that there is no launcher button, no find button, no calculator button, and no menu button. These are all accessible with a couple of button pushes from the keyboard but I am very used to silkscreen versions of these. Battery life appears to be lousy. I may not make it through the entire day on a single charge and you can't replace it. Web data is faster than it has ever been on a phone and actually seems usable. One program that I just started to use now that I am on all-you-can-eat data plan is Win-Hand. Wow! That's is an impressive program. There is something surreal about the first time your driving to work and you attach to your kids' computer at home to fix a program they are having trouble with. On the whole, I am happy with the treo. I wish it had voice-memos, I wish the speakerphone was as loud as the Samsung, I wish it could play Mp3s, I wish it had a replaceable battery, I wish it was expanable, and I wish someone could figure out a resoultion to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict....
So goodbye for now and good luck to you all in your quest for the 7135.

I hope you bought a new laptop while you were at it!

Well, I can understand your reasons and your impatience... it ain't easy waiting! I also admire that you are looking at the differences objectively and didn't try to brainwash yourself into thinking that the Treo is just as good as (or close enough) the 7135. Keep reporting back on how you are adjusting to it and if you're liking it more!

So basically, you are saying that you wish it were the 7135.
I feel ya Pro. I had to run out and get a N400 just to try out Vision. But, it's only $150 from Costco so it's returnable (even when the 7135 comes out). So I'm not really giving up on the 7135, just something to tide me over.
Battery life, that's what'll keep me from going Treo. I've decided that I really don't like built-in batteries in any device, but especially not in a phone that will be my lifeline, and most especially if that battery doesn't go for more than a day.
Well written Pro, and certainly your decision was very understandable. We all have to make similar decisions that work best for our own needs. I'm going to wait it out. I don't like the wait, but I'm getting by just fine with my 6035, and none of the alternatives are exciting enough to uproot me.
I'm sure you'll continue to be active here, and I'm betting before too long, you'll be a "Kyo Krazie" once again.
Well at least I hope you took advantage of the CC price match guarantee. Best Buy is selling treo 300's for $379.99 till the current 25% off special runs out (10-26-02 I believe).
Well,
I can’t say that I blame you, it’s been a long haul and I am wearing thin myself.
I currently have a Kyocera QCP-6035 which I have owned since this unit was first released (this was a trade up from the Palm Vx and Digital Startac combo).
I look every day to see if I can find anything new on the Kyocera 7135 and it is just killing me waiting for the new device.
The only saving grace is that other than size, I still get lots of pleasure from my QCP-6035.
Enjoy,
And by the way, I don’t think that the rest of us are any stronger than you, I actually think that you were stronger to just buy a product that really exist and stop sitting and waiting like the rest of us slaves to technology.
My gut tells me the day after I buy a 300 the 7135 release date will be announced by the carriers. Treo users are listing wishes for the next treo. Most of the wishes are covered by the 7135 so the day it hit's the shelves the 300 will be out of date, and the wait for the next treo will begin by leaked photos, then handspring telling websites to remove the leaked photos, then FCC information, then an admission by handspring that the device exists, then more waiting, then testing, then speculation on release. Could be another year before the update to the 300. In the meantime, for a couple months access to unlimited data early, 300 owners would pay by having to wait another 10 months for a device that fills all of their needs.

The BB here in Gaithersburg, Md has Treo 300s for $300 (new or existing customers)! Needless to say, after purchasing mine for $500 a few days ago from CC, went back to CC and had them credit me CC's guarantee of 110% of the difference! The sales guy at CC was in shock! Interestingly, when I went around looking for the Treo 300 at the various BBs in the area to see if they had any in stock so I would know which BB to tell CC to call for the price check, I spoke with one of the BB reps behind the counter who flatout told me the 300 was a "waste of money" and that there were new "flip" smartphones coming out from Kyocera and Samsung. For a moment, I was impressed with the knowledge this guy had (as it was obviously more than the average rep) until he told me he thought CompUSA had the "new" Kyocera model in stock and if not, I could probably find it online. Oh well, its a start, slowly but surely they are catching up.
BTW, so far I am really liking this Vision service! So much better than the I300's 14.4 dialup! This 300 should hold me over well until Sprint releases the 7135. 7135 + unlimited Vision =

So what are you waiting for? Go out and buy one tonight...heck, I'm sure some of us would chip in...We'd love to hear a REAL official release date tomorrow morning.
Also made the switch from 6035 to the Treo 300 this week, and at this point nothing but good things to say, getting used to the keyboard and with Jot, can still use grafitti....and the speed, oh the speed !
